The film begins during the closing stages of the vietnam war, when Christopher Walken (who plays Robert McBain) and other american POW's are being tortured ny north vietnamese soldiers, an american ranger battalion attack the prison camp and free the POW's, in the ensuing battle McBain's life is saved by one of the american soldiers (by the name of Santos)
The film then moves to present day Columbia where freedom fighters (led by Santos) are trying to overthrow a brutal military dictatorship. Santos is caught and executed, and when McBain finds out about this he swears revenge. He tracks down as many of Santos's old vietnam unit and travels to Columbia to wreak havoc. Cue lots of gunfights/explosions and cheesy lines.
Michael Ironside also co-stars as one of McBain's sidekicks.
There is a hilarious moment when a jet fighter flys alongside McBains plane, McBain fires a pistol out of his cockpit and downs the jet, the cockpit in McBain's plane is closed, but no bullet hole appears in the glass. I had to rewind this scene a few times as i could'nt believe what i'd just seen.
Moments like this aside, it's well worth 97p as most of the action scenes are pretty good!
Advantages: Stunning scenery, stars Henry Fonda, clipped dialogue Disadvantages: Long, lack of dialogue may not appeal to everyone,
