(+) Fast pacy spy adventure, with great music and some equally great stunts. (-) Stunts a bit far fetched - but you expect that with this sort of film.

Advantages: It has Van Damme - twice Disadvantages: It has very little else
Maximum Risk takes a somewhat overused idea and tries to put a new slant on it – whether it succeeds or not is at the discretion of the viewer. Van Damme plays twin brothers, one of whom is prematurely terminated towards the beginning of the film, in France where it happens his twin brother (who, surprise surprise he has been separated from since birth) works as a policeman. A friend of the non-terminated Van Damme is at the scene of the death and ...

Advantages: Plenty of punching, kicking and shooting. Disadvantages: Cliched, stale plotline, stiff dialogue and characters.
Another of the countless Van Damme films to be unleashed upon the public. Naturally its an action thriller starring Van Damme as a 'kickboxing police inspector', interesting premise so far, trying to solve the murder of his twin brother whom he was seperated from at a very young age. Funny how Van Damme plays his own twin in another film but nonethless a fairly typical Van Damme plot, namely Van Damme taking revenge for something, usually a death ... ...course there's eyecandy also, where would a Van Damme film be without the love interest? Natasha Henstridge is provided as blonde totty for the muscled star. Strangely she was his brother's girlfriend whilst he was living, not at all creepy that she ends up dating her dead boyfriend's brother? Odder still the fact that Van Damme's character impersonates his twin and stops minutes away from having sex with his twin's girlfriend, she mistaking him ...

Quick review of Maximum Risk (DVD)
Not a bad film. Being a van damme fan i have quite a few of his films. I found this one to be a bit cheasy. I would stick to the more classic ones. Time Cop for exsample was a really good film. If you have seen all the rest then get this, but i would not pay a lot for it. ...

...movies, but decided to watch maximum Risk because Natasha Hentsridge is in it. But, I did actually enjoy the movie. I was expecting a load of Kung-Fu, Kickboxing scenes, but luckily there wasn’t too many. Van Damme is a French cop who discovers he has a twin brother when he finds his brother dead in Nice. He travels to New York to investigate and finds that his brother is mixed up with the Russian secret service and has compiled a very damaging list ... ...Van Damme teams up with Hentsridge as everyone seems to be out to kill them in order to get their hands on the list.
There is a lot of decent action in the film and some pretty good scenes. The start is excellent with a chase leading to the death of the twin brother.
I would recommend this film for people that like action movies and urge people too see it even if they don’t like Van Damme (like me) as this is one very good film. ...

DVD Description
After making several violent Hong Kong action films in the style that's come to be known as heroic bloodshed, Ringo Lam came to Hollywood to make his first American film with Belgian martial arts star Jean-Claude Van Damme. MAXIMUM RISK, like Van Damme's previous DOUBLE IMPACT, is the story of twin brothers. Unlike the earlier film--in which he played brothers with contrasting characters--here he's a French policeman, Alain Moreau, who takes on the identity of his dead brother, Mikhail. They were separated at birth when their mother, Chantal, played by veteran French film actress Stephane Audran, gave one up for adoption to a Russian diplomat. He grew up to become a member of the new Russian Mafia operating out of the Little Odessa section of New York City. When Mikhail is murdered in France after a wild chase through the streets, Alain goes to New York, where he's assumed to be Mikhail by everyone from the local Russian crime boss to his brother's beautiful girlfriend, Alex (Natasha Henstridge) Working with a seemingly unlimited budget for car crashes, Lam stages the action scenes with a kinetic flair and smartly knits them together with the help of sharp editing by Bill Pankow.
