Full review

Revolutions is the climax of the choices Neo has made. With the Matrix being one of the most exciting and complex trilogys of all time, it can be daunting to watch this film, however if you are a follower of the franchise it is something you will not want to miss. In my previous review I covered Reloaded, and you will want to watch that film before reading the entirity of this review. The 'to be concluded' ending of Reloaded is where we enter Revolutions, and the big subject at hand is the Smith who has taken over the body of someone who was previous freed of the Matrix, making Smith more of a threat to Neo than he has ever been before.

Keanu Reeves returns to play his role as Neo, one of the easiest roles in the film as pretty much all he has to do is act wooden and eat his vegetables so he looks in a realistic condition to do some of the stunts his character can do. Afterall I explained in the Reloaded review that Neo can now fly and have premonitions of the future, and Neo is going to need to use all the powers he's got if he has any chance of ending the war against the machines. At the end of Reloaded Neo choose to save Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) rather than go to the 'source' and end the war. This could be a costly decision, and has even Morpheus (Laurence Fishburn) doubting the prophecy that Neo is 'the One' and can end the war.

Neo is still in his coma, although as the medical atendee points out his vital signs are reading as though he is in the Matrix. When Morpheus puts a search through to try and find him, he is no where to be seen, that is because Neo is trapped in Mobil Ave. No coincidence that it's an anagram of limbo. Along with an Asian family, Neo is in what appears like a train station. The family are awaiting on the 'Traindriver', a program that controls what goes in and out of the Matrix. Upon hearing word from the Oracle, Morpheus and Trinity realise Neo is going to require their help and they go into the Matrix to hunt down this Traindriver.

The Traindriver, although he appears more like a tramp, is in his element down in his tiny station and there is nothing Neo can do to overpower him. Morpheus and Trinity therefore have to go break into a club and speak with Merovingian and his wife, the French characters from Reloaded. In my opinion, both these characters play their role really well and put the rest of the cast to shame. A main subject in the film is love, be it an emotion or just a fickle word the human psyche has thought up. Love is what will come to Neo's aid.

I mentioned how many action sequences there were with Neo in Reloaded, and that is why come Revolutions it is the turn of some other action sequences to step into the spotlight with some fantastic special affects. When the machines finally do attack Zion it is an all out war, and this scene is mixed in with Captain Naobi trying to fly her ship back to Zion and escape the machines following her and the crew. I know this scene goes on for a while, but it is so well put together the time passes by speedily.

When Smith embodied in someone who has been freed from the Matrix awakes from his coma he doesn't have much to say, although no one has any grounds to condemn him for apparently ruining an attack on the machines. It is not until later in the film that we witness the first and only fight between Neo and Smith out of the Matrix, and it is set to end in disaster. With this being the final film in the trilogy that makes every last character disposable, adding an element of excitement to the film because you never know who the directors may want to kill off next.

Running for 124 minutes makes Revolutions shorter than Reloaded, although the film does everything it needs to in bringing the trilogy to its end. Once again the film is a certificate 15 and whilst it doesn't include as much swearing as Reloaded some of the scenes could be unsettling for younger viewers. When I first watched the Matrix trilogy I found the ending really sad, but incredibly intriguing, and it makes me wonder what they could ever do with a fourth Matrix film. I've watched it again over the past 2 days and the ending isn't as sad as I once found it, although Matrix will always go down as a piece of cinematic genius.

The Matrix Revolutions review
Review of Matrix Revolutions (DVD) by Walter_Kovacs

Advantages: Jaw dropping visuals
Disadvantages: Can be rather boring

The Matrix Revolutions is the final part in The Matrix saga. In it, Zion is preparing for the oncoming onslaught of the machines in which they stand no chance of survival. Meanwhile, Neo is held captive by the Merovingian at a train station so Trinity & Morpheus set out on a journey to rescue him so he can save everyone. This one suffers from the same thing Reloaded did. It's too pretentious and some of the philosophical aspects feel forced. The ...

Review of Matrix Revolutions (DVD) by mamba17

Advantages: the conclusion of the brilliant saga
Disadvantages: some may find it confusing

The Matrix Revolutions is that explosive third installment of the sci-fi, geek loving, special effects, machine loving saga of the 90s and new millenium. For 5 years audiences waited for the ending to the amazing film The Matrix which came out in 1999. Revolutions takes off from the second one with Neo in a coma and his love Trinity watching over him. Mr Smith is his usual self during this film being sneaky and mischievious with his usual witty one ...

Well worth watching
Review of Matrix Revolutions (DVD) by BenRowland

Advantages: Concludes the Matrix Trilogy
Disadvantages: Lots of fighting

...a halfway point between the matrix and the machine mainframe. This is the first time that we are introduced to some ordinary programs, that are not trying to kill all the humans. Neo is forced to confront the fact that in fact, the machines are not so different from us. They keep humans trapped in an electronic world, but on the whole they are considerably more benign towards the humans than they were towards the machines in the conflict that sparked ...
...a good conclusion to the Matrix saga. It continues with the trend of asking semi-philosophical questions and probing the question of what it is to be a human. It also starts to query the clear good/evil divide between human and machine. It maintains the impeccable style and grace of the earlier films. However, I did find that some of the fight scenes ran overlong. It seems almost like the Wachowski brothers got carried away with their special effects. ... Read review

All Good Things Must Come To An End
Review of Matrix Revolutions (DVD) by bluewill

Advantages: Another Blockbuster In Terms Of Special Effects
Disadvantages: The Story

...those who don't follow the Matrix the third film starts off exactly where the second left off and although this is a great idea it really means that you are better off watching the second film beforehand again to refresh the story in your head. Moving onto the film itself, a brief plot for all those who never watched the first two would be that Neo has now realised that he alone is the one that can stop the robots and it is up to him to free the ...
...The script in Matrix Revolutions just about holds up although it has one of them endings where the audience is looking around at each other saying "What just happened there". The story and plot don't quite match up to the great story that was "The Matrix " but as far as films go it was still very enjoyable. I do have to mention a few bad points I picked up from the film such as the sex scene between Neo and Trinity which I thought was just totally ... Read review

The matrix
Review of The Matrix/Matrix Reloaded/Matrix Revolutions (Box Set) (DVD) by  tinac37

Advantages: great acting, great soundtrack
Disadvantages: 3 is two to many

...I have to admit The Matrix is not really my kind of film, this was a present I bought for my hubby last year and he loves it. I paid £29.99 from play.com and it was worth every penny. You can get it much cheaper on ebay now but hey it's a year on. I'm not a big sci fi fan but I don't mind The Matrix, I like the sound track, I like Laurence Fishburne, and I like agent Smith, but for me the story is a little far fetched. Any way, enough of my likes and dislikes on with the review. The acting is brilliant in these films, all the characters are strong and the actors play them perfectly. Keanu shaved his head, vomited and had sex scenes. Fishburne, is shot at, beaten up, happy, sad and dumfounded. Everything is done perfectly. This is the 3 DVD Matrix box set. This means you get The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix... Read review

Review of The Matrix/Matrix Reloaded/Matrix Revolutions (Box Set) (DVD) by  Deano_X

Advantages: see 3 great films
Disadvantages: it ends

...This is a collection of 3 of the greatest films of all time. They say all great things come in 3 and this is true with the Matrix. You get the chance the story of Neo, as he starts as a nobody in a rubbush job getting pushed around by his boss to the most powerful man in the matrix. The matrix has a great cast which make the film amazing, with fantastic special effects and a great director. The matrix competes with the likes of The Godfather and Lord of the Rings in story telling. Action wise there is no film better then the first matrix. This is a great collection of dvds, and i think it is a must buy, this is a great present for someone or even a gift for yourself.... Read review

DVD Description

The final movie in Larry and Andy Wachowski's MATRIX trilogy is THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. Toning down the romantic and philosophic elements of the second film in the series, THE MATRIX RELOADED, this third instalment focuses on action. Neo (Keanu Reeves) is trapped in limbo between reality and the Matrix, while Zion, the last human city, is attacked by hordes of machines. Meanwhile, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and Seraph (Collin Chou) confront the ruthless Merovingian (Lambert Wilson) to secure Neo's release. As the fight for Zion grows more dire, Neo and Trinity embark on a perilous journey into the heart of the machine city, while Morpheus and Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith) rush to Zion's aid. Eventually, Neo must face the increasingly powerful Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) in a last battle for the fate of humanity. Highlights of the film include Niobe's thrilling spaceship piloting, the armoured battle for Zion, and Neo's inevitable brawl with Smith, all of which feature amazing special effects. In the midst of the adventure, there are a few quieter moments--such as Neo's Beckett-like wait for the train back to reality--that intriguingly punctuate the proceedings. A fast-paced ending to an epic trilogy, REVOLUTIONS proves once again why the MATRIX series is revered by its dedicated fans.
