Yup, Ram Gopal Varma is prolific and never ceases to amaze and also unfortunately disappoint in the same breath. Mast is sorely disappointing in the 1st half hour when he packs in 3 songs just because he called it a musical. Then suddenly it picks up when the protagonist comes to 'shehar' in quest of his dream girl. The time he spends with the rickshawalla or the hotel owner and others who are similar fans of the super star are simply very tastefully done.
The fun lasts till he manages to meet her and then on it meanders from the average to the rank ordinary. The locales are exquisite, the cinematography superb. The dances very very nice, including the one inspired by songs of yesteryear such as the garage number from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and Aar Paar. Really nicely done with even touches of tap dancing. Ruki Ruki & Mera Hero are the picks from amongst all the already good songs.
The best part of the film is surely the music. Sandeep Chowta has done a great job. We surely should get more from him.Aftab is pretty comfortable even as a debutant. Urmila does not have much to do other than ofcourse dance competently. The best are ofcourse Neeraj Vohra, Nitin Raikwar & gang as the heroes' well wishers. They really add a great flavour to the proceedings.
Still worth a watch over most of the nonsense being churned out these days. The presentation overall is pretty snazzy & innovative. If you are going to watch it on DVD then do yourself a favour and watch the songs first. You'll enjoy them better that way.
