Advantages: Fun, great music, basic and easy to understand Disadvantages: not so good to "get fit", too basic at some points
at the end of each taught section perfomed by the dance troupe.
Positive Points: It is fun, funky and sassy and the choreography once put together is pretty good for beginners. Paulette goes through each section slowly and explains the moves well, and of course there is always the option to pause/rewind anyway. The choice of music is good, each section isnt dragged on and you do feel a sense of achievement when you get each section right (and in time to the music!)
Negative Points: If you are thinking of buying this DVD to get fit, or are used to this type of dancing/have done a few classes etc in the past and are after something more complicated and energetic, then it probably isnt the best choice. I used to dance competitively across the country in similar styles to this one, and the routines are fairly basic, and I dont think it ...
Advantages: packed full with techniques and information; a serious well presented resource Disadvantages: some may find it pricey (although not if you remember the almost 4 hours viewing time!)
I have recently returned to old interests, taijiquan and qigong, mainly for health reasons.
Having lived in China a number of years ago, I was witness there to incredible demonstrations of physical prowess, strength and agility by people of a euphemistic 'certain age', and had been told at the time that this was due to their training in qigong / taiji.
I have now joined a tajiquan course which is quite good, but I find the explanations (I like to know the why of the how, if you know what I mean...) lacking. I therefore decided to investigate theory and method and happened upon the YMAA and Dr Yang Jwing Ming's collection of most helpful, most detailed, most interesting books and DVDs.
