I am wrting a review on the gory film Mary Reilly - A story of a shy housemaid who has a master with some very strong issues.....
This film was based in the 19 century in North England. Where a house maid Mary (Played by the brilliant Julia Roberts) lives and workes in a beautiful big house owned by a Doctor Jekell(John Malcovich). She is totally devoted to her job and her master.
A friendship soon grows between the doctor & the housemaid and she can talk to him about personnal matters such as her life before she started the job. Then things gradually start to change when the Doctor hires an assistant Edward Hyde as Mr Hyde has a vicious side to him.
Soon mary finds herself between the two men, not kowing the full truth - Noticing everything but saying nothing. She cares very much for the master, but is starting to fall slightly for his assistant. But she resistes his charms. Even if he was rude.
This film keeps you in suspence the entire way through. Julia robers is brilliant, she pays the part great. The shy innocent maid who is very quiet and speaks only if spoken to, Walks around with her head down. She actually puts on quite a good irish accent considering shes american.
John Malcovitch is excellent, he is playing the part of Jekell and hyde, and he protreys it to perfection. He shows the good of one man and the evil of another, and his transformation is class. The entire way through the film - the viewers cannot see the transformation - just one man, then he turns into another - until near the end when you see it.
I seen this film years and years ago and i thought it was very interesting. I couldnt believe julia roberts was in a film like this, but it was in 1996, she was very young in this movie.
It is a very great horror movie, and has some very gruesome parts throughout when mr Hyde gets going.
I watched it last nite on tv and there is also a tv series out not about the same type of film called jekell and hyde - its definatly a brilling film ifyour into good horrors, its not like hohhors nowadas with all the special effects its the old style ones, and there definatly the best.
I would reccommend this film. very good classic....
Thankyou for reading

Could you believe that this was the Julia Roberts movie to make the LEAST amount of money; personally, I think it is as good as most of her movies like PRETTY WOMAN and NOTTING HILL. As good as she is though, Malkovich is the one that stole the film....Great review there...Chris x
