Classic films!
Review of The Karate Kid / The Karate Kid 2 / The Karate Kid 3 / The Next Karate Kid (Box Set) by
fatboyjr
Advantages: Great films, good commentary, great price
Disadvantages: Nothing...as long as you like Karate Kid films :P
...fell in love with it. The storyline is so-so, but the performances and characters were just so awesome - who could forget Mr. Miyagi! It's great for younger boys who can relate to Daniel, and the films also teach good morals.
The special features for the box set are limited to some audio commentary by the main characters, but fortunately it's some good stuff. If you're a fan, its great to be able to see how they are in real life, and none of them ...

Beware of the mild mannered janitor
Review of The Karate Kid (Special Edition) by
fuzzybear967
Advantages: Lightweight entertainment
Disadvantages: None really
...affection.
Ralph Maccio plays the lead character Daniel Larusso who together with his single parent mother moves to California from their Esat Coast home to start a new life. Daniel is out of place attending the preppie West Coast school and soon falls foul of the local bully boys led by the blonde haired rich kid Johnny. It just so happens that all of his gang are members of a karate school called the Cobra Kai Dojo and they are quite happy to ... ...a beating rescue comes in the unusual form of the janitor at the apartments where Daniel lives. Mr Miyagi an elderly small Japanese man proves to be rather good at karate and soon sees off the cowardly gang.
He then agrees to teach Daniel how to defend himself and enter the annual karate tournament to help him face up to his bullies. The rest of the ilm follows a rather predictable path with Daniel having to come to terms with his teachers rather ...

"Brick Not Hit Back"
Review of Bloodsport DVD by
fryera2
Advantages: Excellent martial arts action, decent music
Disadvantages: Appalling acting
...my personal favourite).
What Bloodsport does do well is the fighting sequences, which are amongst the best I have seen in any martial arts film. The action is incredibly realistic to the extent that I would not be shocked if some of the action was actually filmed using semi-contact instead of the usual missing by a mile and adding sound effects later that you often get in martial arts films. Luckily enough the fighting sequences form a large percentage ... ...interest and detective scenes then the film is actually very good.
Some of the music in the film is actually pretty good as well and matches the general feel throughout the film (think 80s camp and you are pretty much there).
If you are in any way interested in martial arts then I would recommend this film highly. If you are not interested in martial arts then I probably would not recommend it quite as highly, but personally I think it is great! ...

Ong Bak! woo!
Review of Ong Bak (Subtitled And Dubbed) (Platinum Edition) by
salmonf1
Advantages: Fast paced action
Disadvantages: subtitled or dubbed
Ong bak, starring martial art, and gymastics genius Tony Jaa, is a must see for all martial art lovers. Although subtitled, (i dislike watching it dubbed) its a very good film, and the story is easy to follow. Tony jaa's character is a villager who has spent his life training in the arts of Muay thai, A thai martial art/ sport. His village believe that the condition of their statue Ong Bak bears resemblence to the wellbeing of the village. Basically ... ...become annoyed at the village somehow, steals the head of the statue, and Tony jaa is sent to reclaim it swiftly kicking anyone who gets in the way in the face. (which he does quite a lot. The main aspect of the film is the fact that there are no stunt actors, and no strings or CGI everything you see Tony or others do. Its quite amazing to see what a human is capable of doing. Tony's stunts are vary complex, he can do multiple jumps off a wall for ...

Brainless Fun
Review of City Hunter (Subtitled and Dubbed) (Wide Screen) by
Photosynthesis
Advantages: Great Fight scenes, some comedy moments
Disadvantages: Weak Plot, Dissapointing
Based on a popular manga, I was expecting a lot more from this movie. However for those expecting something similar to the manga, will be disappointed as this movie does not really follow it as such.
Ryo (Jackie Chan) is paid to locate the daughter of his employer. He finds her on a ship, which is hijacked by terrorists, and Jackie must save the girl and the day. Its not exactly a unique storyline or a strong plot. But provides plenty of oppertunity ... ...someone who loves lots of fight scenes, slapstick comedy and some brainless fun for an hour or two, then I would recommend this film. But do not expect a strong story line or any intellectual enhancement from ths movie. Its full of cliches and cheesy moments, but also some funny and enjoyable moments.
There are some great fight scenes and comedy moments, but its one of those movies easily forgotten. Its a film that a Jackie Chan fan would perhaps ...
