I am Wong-Fei Hung from Fu-Shan
Advantages: something for everyone, even women love these movies Disadvantages: A little dated now, sometimes a little to tongue in cheek.
...portraying this person but the Once Upon A Time in China movies tell the legend the best. Some small elements of fantasy within some fight scenes but for the most part raw hard hitting martial arts. Films are better in cantonese with subtitles rather than cheesy dubbing.
This box contains the first three of a total of six movies. The other three movies are titled Last Hero in China, Once upon a Time in China and America, {Kung-Fu shenanigans in ... ...6 {avoid this, this is the only one that doesn't star Jet Li and it's very poor}
Much like Rocky through the course of the movies you see a love relationship blossom between Fei-Hung and Aunt Yee {no relative}
The films also continue the story so you really build an affection for the charachters, such as Ah Soh, Ah Fu, porky, and Clubfoot. The films contain loads of humour and in parts are hysterical. I love ther part where Wong Fei-Hung woh happens ...

Slim Sammo
Advantages: Good plot, excellent Martial Arts Disadvantages: Story wanders
Based on the Dirty Dozen. This is Sammo Hung’s personal favourite film and probably his greatest achievement, in this his is actor and director. In fact the whole cast went through gruelling training to make this movie and it is said that Sammo Hung lost twenty pounds to shoot this movie and it shows. According to the cast in many of the fight scenes the actors are making full contact with each other.
The basic story is that a group of prisoners ... ...a rogue dictatorship in some area of Asia. The setting looks very much like Vietnam in the film. In true Dirty Dozen style the team is made up of a motley crew of likeable and nasty characters, including our hero Sammo Hung. There is a good plot backed up by decent acting and some fast, clever martial art and gun sequences. While the plot may be fairly predictable in terms of who lives and who dies, there is enough here to keep you interested through ...

Must See - Brilliant & Ingeneous martial arts!
Advantages: Culturally accurate (As I can tell), Comical, Excellent martial arts & Choreography. Disadvantages: Not too deep, more for action than story.
I watched this movie as a recommendation from a friend. - And I'm glad I did. This is one of Jackie Chans' first films and helped hurtle him into stardom. Don't be put off by my special effects rating, a good martial arts film doesn't need them! The choreography is outstanding and carries the film from start to finish. The story is of a young unruly martial arts student (Jackie) who is forced by his father to leave town to train with a legendary ... ...of all, feared by new apprentices'. The young Jackie later discovers the legend is all but an old drunk. He dismisses him, until later through a funny and riveting series of events their paths meet again. As the film continues, Jackie's character, Wong Fei-Hung, is taught 'drunken Kung Fu'. In the mean time it is revealed an assassin has been sent after Wongs' father. I think it is plain to see that this is soley a martial arts movie; the story there ...

Kick It To The Man!
Advantages: Great karate action and cute love story! Disadvantages: None to say.
I have loved the Karate Kid movie since it first came out when I was young. I was not a karate enthusiast or anything like that but I found the movie to be entertaining and enjoyable to watch over and over again. Ralph was a young teen idol when this movie came out and Elizabeth was a great counterpart for the show. She adds a little romance to the show! No one will ever forget Pat and his unique karate teaching. "Wax on, wax off" will forever be ... ...would capture anyones eye. The championship is obviously the most climactic moment but I found it to be suspenseful even though you knew that Ralph was going to try the "crane technique". Now that the DVD is out with special features, well...I won't be missing out on this. And if you enjoy this one, I suggest getting Karate Kid II as well - another inspiring story of courage and strength. And if you like Elizabeth Shue in the Karate Kid, I suggest ...

Wax on, wax off!!
Advantages: Karate scenes, Ralph Macchio, end scene Disadvantages: None
...favourite childhood films with arguably the most dramatic cinematic ending of a film ever has to be the Karate Kid. Starring Ralph Macchio as the aforementioned Karate Kid, it follows his journey into the world of, yes, you've guessed it, karate. Ralph played Daniel LaRusso, is a teenager who moves to Southern California from New Jersey with his mother. He firstly finds it hard to fit in as he is a bit different. Daniel has a very Jersey accent which ... ...Johnny, is not happy with the situation. He is a top karate student at the Cobra Kai karate dojo and subjects Daniel to quite a few beatings with the help of his friends. Thankfully for Daniel, he has a unlikely saviour in the form of his apartment janitor, Mr Miyagi played by Pat Morita. Pat was nominated for a best supporting actor award at the Academy Awards for this film in 1984. Mr Miyagi soons becomes his karate teacher and mentor and somewhat ...
