a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they bought home Marley a wiggly yellow fur ball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barrelling ninety-seven pound steamroller of a Labrador retriever a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors gouged through drywall flung drool on guests stole women's undergarments and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around including couches and fine jewelery. Obedience school did no good - Marley was expelled. And yet Marley's heart was pure. Just as he joyfully refused any limits on his behaviour his love and loyalty were boundless too. Marley shared the couple's joy at their first pregnancy and their heartbreak over the miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a seventeen-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. This is the heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life.

I love puppies! So when I saw an advert for a film with a cute puppy in it , I just had to get my hands on a copy of the DVD. That DVD is Marley and Me.

John (Owen) and Jenny are newly weds and have just moved into a gorgeous cottage in Florida to start their new life together. Jenny is ready to start a family but John isn't too sure whether they're ready , so while discussing the matter with a friend , the friend suggest getting a dog just to see whether they'd make good parents or not. The couple go ahead with the idea and buy a beautiful yellow labrador who they name Marley after the singer Bob Marley. But what will happen when Marley turns out to be the 'World's Worst Dog'? Watch Marley and Me to find out.
I hadn't read the book Marley and Me (and to be honest , I didn't know such a book existed until after the film came out!) , so I honestly didn't know what was going to happen! I had expected it to be a 'happy film' , boy was I wrong! Make sure you have some kleenex by your side as you'll need it! This film is so sad! There are some happy moments as well has some hiliarious scenes , so it's not all doom and gloom!
My favourite character had to be Marley! He's just so adorable! To watch , he is such a comical little dog , with all his naughtiness , although I'm sure he would be a right nightmare to have as a pet , judging on all the bad things he did in the film! I think this film sends out a great message : that you shouldn't choose a dog just because it looks cute , you should take into consideration it's kind of behaviour etc , before deciding. It also shows children who perhaps want a dog how much hard work goes into caring for it and that it's not just all 'playing' and 'cuddles' which I think is an important message to send out!
I enjoyed how realistic this film is ; the characters are true and there's nothing 'that-would-never-happen' about it! It's all so normal! I liked the characters , as they were just average people. I think Jennifer Anniston fitted the role of Jenny really well. In fact , I have seen many of Jennifer Anniston's films including Along Came Polly and The Break Up and I think it's safe to say that this one is the best ; in my opinion anyway!
As I have six dogs myself , I could relate to the character of Marley! For example , a lot of the things Marley did reminded me of how my dogs behave , such as sensing when your feeling down or happy and so it made the film a bit more personal for me as sometimes I felt like I knew the dog (if that makes sense!) as though he was my pet!
Although this movie is a PG , I wouldn't really reccommend it to children under the age of ten as it will upset them , especially children who are too young to understand the whole 'when a pet dies' thing. I certainly found it upsetting , so it might not be a good idea to let young kids see it! It certainly made me want to go and give my dog a cuddle! This movie shows just how faithful dogs are ; in this movie the family consider the dog to be a nusiance however , regardless of this , poor old Marley still gives a lot of love to the family , which is quite sad when you think about it! It also makes you appreciate your dog as they're not here forever , and when they're gone that's when you realise you should have appreciated them more. This is definately a film for dog loves. I'm not saying that non dog owners won't enjoy it , but I think to understand that special bond between Marley and the family , your at an advantage if you own a dog yourself.
I would recommend this movie to all dog lovers!

Arnie Klein: Tell your dog not to worry, sooner or later we all lose our balls.

...I really enjoyed the book, Marley and Me by John Grogan and have finally gotten around to watching the DVD, hoping it would live up to the book and be as funny as it could be. I thought it was going to be a bit of a hard prospect as although the book was really funny I was uncertain that it would actually fill a whole movie but overall I think the film did a good job. He and his wife Jenny were just married and enjoying their quiet life. They knew they wanted to have children but just not yet so they came up with the next best thing, a cute little Labrador puppy. What they got once the puppy grew up was 97 pounds of crazy, unpredictable, un-trainable dog who changed their life forever! I think parts of the film were perhaps a bit mundane as they needed to build ...

...a puppy. Along the way Marley provides John with plenty of material for his newspaper column and as their family grows the film highlights the importance the dog plays in all of their lives. This is another film that I have to be honest and say I wasn't that bothered about seeing. It was one that Jenny wanted to see from the first time she saw the trailer but I didn't think it really appealed to me at all. We sat down to watch it last night and I ... ...playing the various stages of Marley really steal the show. There is something loveable about the out of control puppy, probably the fact he belongs to someone else and you find yourself forming a bond with the dog throughout the movie. It seems strange to think that actors like Wilson and Aniston would play the supporting cast to a dog but that's exactly ...

Advantages: Funny, down-to-earth and easy to relate to - love it Disadvantages: Absolutely none!!
Marley And Me is about a blossoming family generated by the love and fusion of the relation of John and Jennie. Both main characters write for Newspapers and soon decided to get a dog. Not long after, they discover that Marley is going to be a huge part of their life, more then they thought orginianally. After the family grows and time passes by, a heart-wrenching ending is soon to become in this amazing movie.
Without a doubt, this film is one ... ...see this film when it came out at the Cinema, and at first I wasn't too sure what it was about, yeah I knew it was about a couple and their dog Marley, but I wasn't actually sure if this was going to be a quick funny film or a real in-depth story telling movie. Once getting into the movie I did realise that this is a proper, proper movie and I was going to enjoy it, if you understand what I'm trying to say.
The storyline is great, a real down-to-earth ...

Advantages: A lovely heart warming story of a family and their pet dog. Disadvantages: Can get very sad, tissues might be needed.
I took my daughter who is 10 years old to the cinema to watch Marley & me. The acting was very good and natural, even the dogs were fantastic. It's a very heart warming story. It starts with a young couple who have no children( as yet) and they decide to have a puppy. The film takes you through their life with the dog and the children that the couple have. It's a film about their life and the choices that they have to make and also the sacrifies. It's a very fun film with some good funny moments, beware females especially you may be needing a few tissues. I want to buy Marley and me on DVD cause it's a film you could watch over and over again. Diffently one for the collection. Great film, good acting. My daughter and I really enjoyed it, so if you want a nice heart warming, sad, funny film for all the family this is for you. ...

Advantages: cast, plot, dog, emotional Disadvantages: I cried
There are some films that I often ponder over for a while, unable to decide whether I should spend that few quid to go into the cinema to see them. One of these was Marley and Me, and in the end I had chose against seeing it. Though since then I've had the chance to see it on DVD (albeit a copy...) and I must say, I wish I had taken the opportunity to see it on the big screen!
After moving to Florida, John Grovan buys his wife Jennifer a gorgeous golden Labrador puppy, which they name Marley. Though he grows up to be an enormous 100lb dog who is scared of thunderstorms, reluctant to be trained and very energetic. The dog is not the only love if their lives though, as they begin to have a family. Will they be able to keep Marley, a boisterous 'clearance dog', while there are little children around, or will they be forced to make uneasy ...

things don?t exactly go to plan. When Jenny eventually gives birth it changes everything in their relationship and with unruly Marley around to chew the furniture, bark at every noise and generally cause havoc, life for the Grogans? isn?t going to be easy?
Marley & Me isn?t something that I got around to seeing at the cinema so when it was released on DVD I bought it based on all the good reviews I?d heard about it prior, I?d also heard it was a tearjerker however not being much of a dog person myself I thought that this aspect of the film would probably go over my head.
Unfortunately not, Marley & Me is an extremely emotional film, it?s classed as a family movie and although children may not watch this so intently as adults would I think that it could be quite upsetting for children especially if they have a dog in the family. This film ...

Review
This perky, episodic film is as broad and obvious as it could be, but delivers on its own terms thanks to sparky chemistry between its sunny blond stars, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, and the unabashed emotion-milking of the final reel (Variety, 12/05/2009)
DVD Description
David Frankel (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) delivers another charming comedy. Based on the hit memoir by John Grogan, MARLEY AND ME chronicles the relationship of John (Owen Wilson) and Jen (Jennifer Aniston) as they face the challenges of marriage and work to start a family. By their side is their beloved dog, Marley, who can chew through drywall, got kicked out of obedience school, and never met a leg he didn't like. The cute pup's antics come to signify the unexpected challenges that everyone faces in adulthood, and the film is ultimately a paean to unconditional love; others may see Marley as the 'world's worst dog', but throughout it all, he proves to be the couple's most faithful friend. MARLEY AND ME plays like a modern day Norman Rockwell portrait with a little more bite, courtesy of the snark-friendly screenwriters and the title's wild mutt. The sets are sumptuous, with every shot lovingly lit to look like a Hallmark card. The winning lead performances help elevate the picture above its feel-good counterparts; Aniston is radiant and Wilson shows off sharp dramatic chops, giving some maturity to his loveable comedic persona. Alan Arkin gives a scene-stealing performance as Wilson's boss, and Kathleen Turner proves to be a great sport with her physically demanding cameo as Marley's obedience instructor. But in the end the picture belongs to the dogs, and for once that's a good thing. A film that keeps the audience cooing, cracking up, and crying, MARLEY AND ME is sure to become a family favourite.
