Keith Barrett is a divorcee cab driver who looks upon his divorce as "not losing a wife, but gaining a new friend".
And so it continues, in the sad, heartwrenching world that Rob Brydon has created for Keith. He is the eternal optimist, looking forward to seeing his two boys, his "little smashers", or making friends with Geoff, his ex-wife's new partner.
It is no coincidence that the programme is called "Marion and Geoff" because at times it does feel like Keith is living his life through them.
Shot as a monologue to camera as he drives his cab, the original TV show was shown as ten minute segments, but I watched it straight through almost as a film. You just can't stop. Be prepared for tears as well as laughter too - particularly when Keith is on his way back from a "surprise" trip on Eurotunnel to visit his little smashers on holiday, and hasn't seen them. As he makes Tigger and Pooh hug, and then hugs them himself, the acting is all there without a single word being spoken, and for a moment Rob Brydon is Keith Barrett, and we are intruding on a very private, very emotional moment.
It is bits like this that make the comedy even more effective. It is subtle, well crafted, and with an eye for detail.
The DVD has the usual extras, commentary and an extra episode that is (surprisingly for extras) as good as the others.

Good review but you need a lot more information to get higher ratings. Try looking at some other DVD reviews to get some ideas. Don't give up, we all get there! If you edit this drop me a line in my guest book and I will re-read and re-rate. Donna x
