Dr No (DVD, Film only review)

Advantages: 1st in the series, a good bond
Disadvantages: can be a little slow

James Bond, the suave, sophisticated, womanising and deadly British agent from MI6 with a licence to kill. I don't think that there is a soul that has not at least heard of this legendary character. Starting it's movie life way back in 1962 with Dr No, and currently on its 21st official movie (Not including Never say never again which is not classed as an official James Bond movie), Casino Royale which has just been released at the cinema, surely this is one of the most successful if not THE most successful book to film series ever. Everyone has their favourite bond out of the six actors that have played him. After having seen Daniel Craig in the new Casino Royale I am thinking that he may be very close to the top of my list, if not THE top, although there were questions about him not being "Bond" like, however It's worth mentioning ...

Stepping out at Tarr Steps

Advantages: It's cheap and in this country
Disadvantages: None really

Last weekend saw our little family heading down to my spiritual home in the south-west of England. Actually when I say family I mean myself, fiancé and Charley the spotty dog and when I say spiritual home I mean that we were off to visit some friends in Taunton, Somerset. On arrival on Friday evening (we set off from Shropshire just after lunch and arrive in Taunton just after tea - the wonders of the modern motorway network!) we decided that depending on the weather we would go out on the Saturday somewhere that Charley could have a walk and where our friends daughter (18 months) would have fun while we were walking the dog. If we now go back in time (about 18 years) I was on camp from junior school (year 6 I think) in Exmoor somewhere. During the week we visited many different places but the one enjoyed best was Tarr Steps. I ...

LG DR275 DVD Recorder

Advantages: Multi-format recording/playback
Disadvantages: Unreliable

I've had one of these for just over a year now and lets just say it has been... problematic. First the good points (yes there are some!) It will record on DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs and play DivX, VCD's and MP3/WMA files and also view JPEG images, in fact pretty much anything you can throw at it. Also has component output so if you have a HD television you can take advantage of it's progressive scan output, and standard digital and analogue audio output jacks. Now for the negative points. There is no digital tuner, so once the analogue tv signal is switched off the internal tuner will be redundant. Also it will not 'pass-through' an RGB Scart signal from one Scart socket to the other - for example if I connect my Sky Digibox to the recorder's AV-in Scart socket it will not output the Digibox's RGB signal from the recorder's AV ...
