I didn't even hear about this till recently when I decided to give it a watch considering it was a romantic comedy.Directed by Stephen Belber and starring Jenifer Aninston and Steve Zahn, this film is rather slow for its genre.
Sue(Aninston) is a travelling art seller and checks into a motel where the manager falls for her and comes up with new ideas to interact with her.Things take a twist when Sue allows her to grab her butt after he compliments her.The next morning, she ends up having sex with him before leaving the motel which makes it more complex. What she thought was a passing thing turned out to be more as Mike followed her and continued to keep in touch.
The film takes place over the course of a few years as Mike keeps chasing her despite the presence of her boyfriend. Some scenes are really funny but the writing is weak, the film crawls to its end. It is very inconsistent and you wish they had spent more time with the script, a few things are illogical and hard to digest.
If the film has anything worth it, it has to be Steve Zahn's portrayal of Mike. He's a delight to watch. The character is rather complex and Zahn seems to be enjoying what he is doing. His nuances are perfect.Jenifer Aninston compliments him well and packs in a decent performance as well.
You just wish the story was stronger and more appealing. It certainly did fall short of my expectations
Summary: A rom-com that didn't meet my expectations
