In July 2008 a new musical hit our screens, derived from a stage show with the same name, Mamma Mia brought countless of people to the cinemas and made everyone smile.
I think what brought people to watch this film was the brilliant cast within the film, Amanda Seyfried takes the protagonist role within the film and plays Sophie Sheridan, a young woman who is about to get married and who wants her unknown father to attend her wedding. To find out the identity of her father she reads her mother’s diary and finds out that her father is one of a possible of three. So she invites all of them along.
Stellan Skarsgard, Pierce Brosnon and Colin Firth play the three possible fathers, none of them have any idea that Sophie is their daughter and they believe that is was Sophie’s mother Donna played by the iconic and brilliant Meryl Streep that invited them, however she had no idea.
I have not heard many bad words about this film, I don’t think blokes will enjoy the film as a whole; it is more of a chick flick with music. Anyone who is a fan of Abba will adore the music within the film; there are some great covers, mainly by Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried and some not so great covers, mainly by Pierce Brosnon who should never be allowed to sing again.
It is a great film with some great music and if you are one of the handful who haven’t seen this film yet then please watch it, it is truly a lot of fun.
