THE FILM: - The film focuses on two main character Brody (Jason Lee) and T.S. (Jeremy London). They are dumped by their girlfriends on the same day, so they decide to go to the mall. T.S. discovers that his ex-girlfriend is appearing on her father's game show 'Truth or Date' an American vesion of Blind Date. T.S. decides that the show mustn't go on so they enlist the help of "Two reputable Mischeif Makers" Jay and Silent Bob. Comedy ensues............
EXTRAS: - Once again, as with the Clerks DVD View Askew has provided us with a classic, must have DVD, bettering that of aforementioned clerks, in terms of content and film. The bonus features included are as follows: -
Audio Commentary with Kevin Smith (Writer / Director / Character; Silent Bob), Scott Mosier (Producer / Character: Roddy), Ben Affleck (Character: Shannon), Jason Lee (Character: Brody), Jason Mewes (Jay Phat Buds), Vincent
Perrera (View Askew historian);
Soundtrack presentation followed by the music video "Build Me Up Buttercup" by the Goops;
Deleted Scenes with introductions/explanations by Kevin Smith and Vincent Pereira (View Askew Historian);
Audio Commentary - funny and informative what more can I say? Oh yeah, sometimes the cast and crew go off on a wild tangent that has no bearing on the film whatsoever, still funny anyways.
The Music Video, which was also directed by and starring Kevin, alongside Jason Mewes is worth a look also, very funny stuff with Mewes stealing the show.
The Production photographs are worth a look but nothing really interesting , this is also the case with the filmographies. THE VERDICT: - The story doen't sound too appealing (as it did with clerks and in fact any other New Jersey Trilogy film to date). For example who would give a flying rats ass about a home video about me and my mates walking around the metro centre for a day, but belive me this is one of the funniest film's that I have seen in a long time. It has some classic quotes and sequences that will be remembered for a long time by myself and my friends. They include: -
Jay and Silent Bob's plans and attempts to stop the game show from taking place;
Jay and Silent Bob take on (or should that be take out) the Easter Bunny;
Jay: - "Look at me, look at me you sloppy b@#ch!"
Brody - "I would have been a Sexy Chick!"
Jay: - "Oh Son of Jerrell, Kneel before Zod. Snootchie-Bootchie-Nootchies,"
The character's introduced here are some of my all time favourites both in the View Askew Universe and in film in general. Brody (Lee) had got to be my all time favourite, the Jay and Silent Bob characters get a more prominent role this time round, which is a welcome addition as they provide some of the funniest moments in the film. However, things were not all that great. When the film was released the film flopped at the box office and slated in most of the reviews that were written by the critics, bar a few. I've no idea why, as it has all the elements of a succesful film. Thankfully, the movie cme into play when it was released on video and then the eventual release of the DVD's. The downside to the latter being that when Smith was pitching his next film Chasing Amy (review coming soon, bah shameless plug) to the studios, they had little or no confidence in him based on the disastrous turnover of mallrats. So he went and did a clerks and funded the project himself (coming in at a lean £350,000), thus giving him more creative freedom.
An intersesting fact about the flick is that there was a scene written with Jay, Silent Bob and Gwen (Joey Lauren-Adams), where Gwen was in a changing room with Jay & Silent Bob 'Whacking off'. Cum shoots over the top of the wall and into her hair. In their wisdom the big wigs at Universal forced the scene to be removed on the grounds that it was disgusting and distasteful. So what happens five or so years later a massive summer movie with the main joke (and the advertising campaign) centered around a scene that is very similar. *cough* There's Something About Mary *cough*.
Snoogans.

Love this movie. Love it. I just got the CE DVD too, interesting to see just how much was cut. (Though I confess I didn't know about the spanking scene.) Good op - Dione
