I must admit I am a huge fan of chick flicks so when I saw this on special offer for £5.99 in my local Asda, I decided to pick it up for a rainy evening when I was in on my own. The Dvd I am talking about is Maid in Manhattan, a chick flick starring Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes.
Maid in Manhattan is a romantic comedy that centres on Marisa (Jennifer Lopez) and her life as a chambermaid in a posh Manhattan Hotel. She wishes for a better life for her and her son Tyler. She wishes that she was like the posh entrepreneurs and the like that constantly stay in the hotel that she works in.
Marisa and some of the fellow chambermaids like to have a touch of fun whilst they are at work and they try the clothes on of the rich women and imagine what it must be like to live the wealthy life.
Then one day Marisa is trying some of the luxurious clothes on when a successful businessman who is staying at the hotel mistakes his room and catches Marisa but alas he does not realise she is the chambermaid he mistakes her for a fellow socialite. The businessman Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes) invites Marisa out for an evening the following day when he sees her on her day off and she agrees.
This is where the film starts to become romantic and funny at the same time, as Marisa is pretended to be something she isn't whilst Christopher begins to fall for her. In true form, Marisa's true identity is revealed and of course how can Christopher go out with a dowdy chambermaid who was without status and wealth? Will they fall in love and live happily ever after, well I'll let you watch it and see, as I hate it when the ending is ruined in reviews.
So What Did I Think?
Overall I think that Jennifer Lopez shines throughout this film and she portrays a dowdy chambermaid perfectly. Joking apart though this film is very bittersweet, it is another film that shows that love can blossom between anyone. Ralph Fiennes also plays the dashing successful businessman very well and makes you fall in love with him throughout the film.
About The Dvd
Unfortunately, this DVD is the film only it has no special features which I think it is a let down, as I would have liked some interviews with Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes.
The Dvd has an approximate running time of 101 minutes, and it has a PG rating. The Dvd is also widescreen, so if you have a widescreen t.v then you will get optimum viewing of this DVD.
A Bit of Trivia
Apparently the director wanted Sandra Bullock to play the part of Marisa, not Jennifer Lopez.

Conclusion
This film is a definite chick flick and if you are not a fan of these then this film is not for you. Although I really enjoyed this film, it is the same of many others films along the same lines, so if you don't like romantic funny chick flicks then this is not for you.
