Directors: Eric Darnell and Tom McGarth
Producers: Mireille Soria and Teresa Cheng
Writers: Mark Burton, Eric Frolick, Tom McGarth and Eric Darnell.
Stars: Ben Stiller, Chris Rock David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Andy Richter and Cedric the entertainer.

Released in 2005 the animation masterpiece centres around the lives of some pampered wild animals in New York's Central park Zoo.

**CHARACTORS**

*Alex the lion, (voiced by Ben Stiller) is the star attraction at the zoo, loving his pampered up bringing, he is a show off when appearing for the visitors to the zoo. Unfortunately, he has no idea about living in the wild and is confused when his natural instincts sometimes kick in.

*Marty the Zebra, (voiced by Chris Rock) is not entirely happy living in the zoo and is always dreaming about a life outside the zoo gates. His quest for adventure is the reason will always get him into trouble.

*Melman the Giraffe, (voiced by David Schwimmer) is always complaining of being ill, (in fact he could be seen as the 'hypochondriac' of the animal kingdom). He thinks of himself as a street wise kind of animal as he used to live in a pretty rough zoo in the Bronx.

*Gloria the Hippopotamus, (voiced by Jada Pinkett Smith) is seen as the glue that hold the group together with her kindness and a heart of gold. She is never phased by anything as is full of confidence.

Mason, (voiced by Conrad Vernon) and Phil, the chimpanzees are seen as smart sophisticated creatures with there newspaper reading and their tea drinking. Mason speaks with an upper-crust accent and plans the routines for himself and his non speaking friend Phil.

**The Penguins

*Joe (aka Skipper) (voiced by Tom McGarth) is the penguin leader
  • Rico (voiced by John DiMaggio) is the explosives/ arms expert.
  • Kowalski (Chris Miller) is the escape planner.
  • Private (Christopher Knight) is simply the cute one who everybody falls in love with.

The penguins can not grasped the concept that they are really…penguins, they believe that they are really undercover agents working fro the government. With Skipper as the leader of their military style team they are constantly trying to tunnel there way out the zoo in the hope of escaping to Antartica, not really knowing how cold it is there.

**The Lemur group,
*Julien, the ring tailed lemur, (voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen), sees himself as the King of the Lemurs, with his crown of leaves. All the other Lemurs worship Julien and obey his every word.
*Maurice, the Aye-aye, (voiced by Cedric the Entertainer) is Juliens right hand 'man'. He is really the only one in the lemur group with any brains and is not at all impressed with Juliens rule.
*Mort, the Goodman's Mouse Lemur (voiced by Andy Richter) is the annoying, shrieking lemur from the zoo who just can't fit in with the Lemurs from the wild.

*The Foosa are hyena like wild creatures who are seen as the villains of the movie, always trying to kill and devour the Lemurs. They, however, are scared to death of Alex and are always fleeing from him.

**PLOT IN BRIEF**

With Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria all being brought up in captivity they have little if no idea about life outside the zoo walls.
However, Marty often wonders what the outside world is like and is often caught day-dreaming about escaping the zoo.
Then when the penguin escape committee actually escape, Marty see his opportunity to see what life is like on the outside.
When Alex, Melman and Gloria find Marty missing they go in search for him to bring him back to the zoo before morning, but things don't go quite to plan and they all end up being caught and shipped to a less pleasurable zoo.
Unfortunately, as the ship is at sea, things go from bad to worse when the penguins decide to hijack the ship they are on.
They then find themselves washed up on the shores of a beautiful island with much wild life and many dangers for the tame creatures.
The story then takes the animal friends through the dangers and pitfall of what life is actually like outside the comforts of the Central Park Zoo.

**IN CONCLUSION**

A great animated movie with some fantastically dry humoured punch lines.
The expressions of fear on the pampered animals faces as they wonder through the jungle is brilliantly drawn, hilarity at its best.

The individual characteristics of the 'wanna-be' wild animals is simply fantastic and the speed the movie runs will keep even the most fussy of the audience pleasantly pleased.

I definitely WOULD recommend watching this movie as I know you will enjoy the funny banter and the brilliantly written story line. It will certainly make you cry with laughter throughout…

A film for all the family… 10/10

Watch out for the sequel…..
