Opals, fosters and Mad Max. Not a lot of good stuff comes out of Australia so savour this :) (apologies to any austalians). This original and creative low budget movie was something of a landmark of the genre. The first film to star Mel Gibson (before he became scottish :braveheart:) Mad Max is set in the near future where civilisation has descended into anarchy and chaos.
Max is a good cop who is fed up with his job trying to protect people from lunatic speed fraks who terrorize the highways, and chasing crazed criminals.
Max's boss attempts to bribe him with fast cars and flattery but to no avail finally Max agrees to take a vaction and think hard about his decision. After an idyllic weeks vacation he hasn't changed his mind he will retire to spend more time with his wife and child.
Unfortunatly for Max a gang of bikers have a different plan. Maxs family is killed in a revenge attack for an incarcerated gang member. This leaves Max without a purpose. He decides to don bike leathers stap up and seek revenge in his new V-8.
The plot is simple but the amazing stunts and creative design of costume and sets help to make this a great sucess for director George Miller.
Miller creates great characters who you really associate with. this film was made with an incredibly small budget and was the most successful independant film in Australia. Taking more money than Star Wars.
Unfortunatly the american redubbed version flopped but the original is still a classic film.
Rent this buy this watch this a good film and really a film everyone should see once.
