Imagine a post-nuclear future where fast-driving criminals rule the road, causing death and mayhem, as they hijack the highways. The police are overpowered and almost ineffective. Enter our hero, Max, on a vacation with his wife and baby. They are attacked by a crazed gang who kill Max's family. Max becomes mad, hence Mad Max, and seeks revenge on the murderers.

Mad Max is a fast-paced movie that does not have a superb plot, but is enriched by the superb action and cinema-togrophy. Mel Gibson, an unknown Australian actor at the time, moves his career into high-gear with a gutsy performance as the revenge seeking Mad Max.

The movie is a little frightening at times, as it is possible to see the future could be very similar to this fiction, and I would advice parental control over the movie.

Those who played the seventies board game 'Car Wars' will particularly like this as there is a lot of 'car' and 'bike' fighting as Mad Max gains revenge on his enemies.

The movie is fairly predictable and really doesn't have much of a plot.

Overall, Mad MAx was an interesting diversion that leads onto better movies. The format and basic scenario are good, it just needed the 'Hollywood' polish to make it into a great movie. My opinion, buy some of the later versions.
