Lunar Jim is a childrens animated series that has been enchanting children since it first aired on tv. It follows the adventures of Lunar Jim and his team as they work and live on Blue Moon L22, is described as being the second to last moon along the edge of the Milky Way.
It helps teach children how to cope with different scenarios and feelings that they may experience -it promotes exploring, team building, sharing, solving problems and being creative. It also makes space and science a fun topic for pre-schoolers! All of the characters live in a camp that is known as Moonaluna. This camp includes Mission Control and the Eco Dome.
The characters in Lunar Jim are:
- Daisy - Daisy is a cow who provides Milk to Lunar Jim and his team
- Dolores - Dolores is an inquisitive Chicken
- Eco - Eco is the farmer of the team - he lives in the dome and helps build strange Exotic plants and flowers, and
he also tends to the animals. He spends nearly all of his time inside the dome and is always on hand for ecological and farming advice.
- Lunar Jim - Lunar Jim is the main character on Blue Moon L22 -he leads the team in exploring the Moon and gathering information and samples. He is a fun-loving, laid back person who takes many problems in his stride - hardly anything phases him.
- Pixel - Pixel is the computer that assists the members of Lunar Jims team - he tells them each day what tasks they need to complete and he also provides information on samples or species they find on the Moon
- Ripple - Ripple is the only female human on Lunar Jims team -she is also the resident engineer - she is known to be inventing equipment all the time, and her discoveries and inventions always seem to save the day.
- Rover - Rover is a robotic dog and is the faithful companion of Lunar Jim - he follows him everywhere and is involved in all of his missions and adventures. His greatest way to pass the time is to play fetch!
- Skye - Skye is a young space cadet that joins the team at Moonaluna and is raring to go and get involved in missions!
- TED - TED stands for Technical Equipment Device. TED is a hilarious humanoid robot that is always getting into mishaps as he is very clumsy and seems to have two left feet! He is a comical character that is almost childlike as he is learning through the missions he partakes in - but he is also very clever and helps Lunar Jim solve many a mystery.
- Yik Yak - Yik Yak is an alien who descends on Lunar Jim and his team from time to time intent on causing mischief and mayhem. he only speaks in rhyme!
- Zippity - there is not much to say about Zippity except that he is the space Post man! ------------------------------------------
This DVD was released 18 months ago so it has now gone down in proce - I paid £18.99 for it, but I have now seen it sell in places such as Amazon for £7!! This DVD is great fun for kids - it follows the same antics as the Lunar Jim TV series and involves all the same characters getting involved in mayhem and mischief on their missions. The DVD contains 10 fun packed episodes for children to watch time and time again. There is a real sense of energy and fun with this childrens program and it never fails to excite my son, who has now declared that he wants to be a space man!

------------------------------------------------------------- I would highly recommend this DVD for any parent with a preschool aged child - it is an entertaining DVD and it enchants the children endlessly, and it also teaches them about different social interaction skills. In my opinion it bears a resemblance to the animation programme Bob the Builder, except this is set in space! I have found that with my son watching this I am able to relax with a coffee and a magazine or complete some housework without worrying as he doesnt want to miss a minute of his DVD.
