Bosstime for Charby

Advantages: Excellent band, very well recorded, explosive performance
Disadvantages: Don't be silly!

the Springsteen gig atmosphere in our living room. When I came home for a couple of days recently my mam insisted on having these DVDs on almost constantly, especially his Live in Barcelona DVD, which I m reviewing for you now. The live show contained on this DVD was filmed on the 16th of October 2002, two months into the E Street Band?s world tour following the release of The Rising album a mere three months earlier. Since The Rising is probably my favourite album of Bruce?s whole back catalogue, I love this DVD for the number of Rising songs featured in this show. My favourites include... well, ALL of this album to be honest, but the best performed song from The Rising on this DVD has to be Mary?s Place, in my opinion. The happiness and power that comes out of the band while playing this song is phenomenal, and since Bruce introduces the E Street ...

Lewd and Lurid in Barcelona

Advantages: Fab cinematography, great performances from Cruz, Bardam and Rebecca Hall
Disadvantages: All a bit lewd and lurid

If you remember in 2007 we saw Javier Bardam, a ferocious villain, wearing a bad haircut, roaming destructively around the county of Texas in the film 'No Country for Old Men.' He played the role of one of the most frightening men in the history of film. In Woody Allen's new comedy, 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Bardam has a new hairstyle and is wearing some trendy and very stylish shirts but I still find it difficult to blot out the vision of that indelible and formidable performance. Even in Allen's new film, Javier is still playing a rogue. His good Latin looks are impressive but this time he is even more scary. He plays the role of Juan Antonio, a stylish dressed, Lothario, who has women falling at his feet. Whether they are women of a promiscuous nature or have high morals and are principled, they are seduced by him and he teaches ...

Living In Oblivion review

Advantages: Well acted, keeps you engaged throughout
Disadvantages: None

Living In Oblivion is a low budget independent film written and directed by Tom DiCillo and starring Steve Buscemi and Dermot Mulroney. Sure, these aren't A-list stars, but that lends itself to the story. If it was a film about the making of a film and you had George Clooney and Brad Pitt pretending to be small time actors you wouldn't believe it. That's why it was better to use less well known actors, it pulls you more into the story. The film takes place during one day on set of a low budget movie, and documents all the problems that the director, Nick (Buscemi), and everyone else can encounter, from equipment malfunctioning to office politics to actors forgetting their lines. It's almost like a documentary, it is very realistic and gives you the complete story as to what it's like trying to get a film made. There are a few ...
