Christmas is fast approaching , and so beings as I havn't written a new review for around two weeks , I thought I would write a review on something Chrismassy and this is where the film Love Actually comes into it.
Love Actually is a British film which comes under the romantic comedy genre. It was released in the United Kingdom in 2003 and was directed by Richard Curtis. The film stars many 'big names' including Hugh Grant , Keira Knightley and Alan Rickman as well as a few other well known actors and actresses. Running time of the movie is 135 minutes ( two hours and fifteen minutes)
The film as the title suggest is based on love. The storyline revolves around a number of couples or potential couples rather than just one couple. I won't say anymore because I think that this would give the plot away and therefore spoil it for the viewer.
Although this film was extremely popular and 'bigged up' at it's time of release I hadn't actually seen it and didn't really know that much about it, (I was twelve at the time). The first time I saw it was on the last day of term before the school Christmas holidays about three years ago, and thought it was a great way to say goodbye to the rest of my classmates before Christmas. It was a film that definitely made us feel good when walking through the
school gates after watching it.
I love the magical feeling when watching this film. It's such a great Christmas film and I don't think it would have worked so well if the storyline hadn't revolved around Christmas. I think this is a great film to watch during the countdown to Christmas. It makes you feel all excited about Christmas! I think the days leading up to Christmas are actually more exciting than the day itself , so this is one of the ways I like to get myself ready for Christmas!
Being a huge fan of romantic comedies and Christmas , this has to be one of my favourite ever films. I think because it contains so many 'love stories' it must be the most 'romantic film' ever made. It's so magical and gives you a great feeling! I think that we should appreciate films like these more as they don't come along very often , and when they do , what a great treat they are!
I think one of the best things about this film is definitely the music. I don't know it it is a coincidence or what , but it seems a lot of my favourite ever songs are on my all time favourite movie! A lot of the songs are really romantic ones with lots of emotions , and fit into the film so well. Such songs include : To Lost In You by the Sugababes , The Trouble With Love by Kelly Clarkson , Wherever You Will Go by The Calling and Here With Me by Dido. After watching this film I said I was going to get the Love Actually Sountrack album , although I STILL (after three years or so) havn't purchased it , although I have put it on my 'Christmas List' this year , so hopefully I'll be owner of the CD soon!
I like how this film shows how love affects everyone , whether your young or old , rich or poor , or famous or not. Love affects everyone! I liked how the characters potrayed the extent to what people will go to for love ; it's so sweet! I found the characters have a huge effect on the viewer. What ever the character on screen is feeling , the viewer feels it too. So you can go from feeling happy to sad , to exicted and down withing minutes! It's great!
There is a lot of humour in this movie. One example it , Hugh Grant plays the prime minister in this movie , and he does a silly dance which is very comical. One criticism I do have concerning Hugh Grant though , is the fact that as soon as I knew he was in this movie , I knew what kind of character he was going to play ; the same as always of course : A posh , British gentleman , who makes a fool of himself. I find he plays this type of character far too often and therefore feel he is not challenged as an actor , and makes you think as a top actor , is that all he can do ?
At two hours and fifteen minutes , this movie is quite a long one , and some people may find it too long. I'm not complaining though , as I loved every minute of it , and even after the whole two hours and fifteen minutes , I was sad to see it end!
Usually with movies , once I've seen them a few times I don't want to watch them again , but with this movie I find I could watch it any amount of times without getting tired of it. I find that there is so much going on in the movie that I forget everything that happens once I have watched it , so when I watch it again , I know what's coming in some places , but often find myself surprised when I watch it the next time as I had 'forgotten' that that happens!
With only fourty five days until the big day , this is definitely one of the best ways to count down to Christmas!
* Quotes * Jamie: I'm so late. Jamie's Girlfriend: It's just 'round the corner, you'll make it. Jamie: Are you sure you don't mind me going without you? Jamie's Girlfriend: No, really, I'm just feeling so rotten. Jamie: I love you. Jamie's Girlfriend: I know. Jamie: I love you even when you're sick and look disgusting. Jamie's Girlfriend: I know. Now go or you will actually miss it. Jamie: Right. Did I mention that I love you? Jamie's Girlfriend: Yes you did. Get out, loser!
