soundtrack knows its target demographic and seizes it by the throat. Dido, Norah Jones and Gabrielle in addition to a latter-day makeover of the all-woman anthem "Jump" performed here by Girls Aloud, make this a shrewdly chosen body of great music. In addition to this, who can forget Billy Mack's hark back to the success of Four Weddings and a Funeral with his seasonal rendition of the Trogg's (and Wet Wet Wet's) "Christmas is all Around". Love Actually is great fun and will undoubtably be a hit at office parties across the land; the only drawback is the conspicuous absence of Robbie Williams. --Georgina Collins

...My opinion:
Love, Actually is full of stars, there's Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Andrew Lincoln (previously in This Life) Laura Linney, Alan Rickman, Rowan Atkinson and I could go on and on and on. The only problem with this is none of them shine out, they're all in there cause they're names, not because they're giving a good performance, there is a surplus of talent here ... ...they just seem to be tripping over each other and giving cameo performances in what are feature roles really.
I enjoyed, well not enjoyed exactly but thought that the best performance in the film came from Liam Neeson as the grieving husband and stepdad, he was bearably acceptable, but the role wasn't fleshy enough for us to see his exceptional talent, it was a bit like an iceberg, you can see a little on the top but you know there's ... more
Introduction:
If I have to see another shot of Keira Knightley's perfect smile and exceptionally toothy grin I will in fact self combust. She is in fact lovely, but vapid in this film, all she does is smile and look slightly bemused but she doesn't have a big part in this film, so I'm trying to get over it.
This is Richard Curtis's not sequel, because it doesn't follow on from Four Weddings and a Funeral (almost put Four Weedings and a Funeral - a very different film) so not a sequel, but in the same style, vapid keeps popping up in my head but I don't want to get too bogged down in my opinion just yet.

A short synopsis:
It's actually (Love, actually!) quite hard to give a very accurate synopsis of this film because basically there is lots going on at the same time that actually amounts to nothing at all.
A couple get married (Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor), a man finds his girlfriend in bed with his brother, a new prime minister moves in to 10 Downing Street, another man is grieving his wife's passing away and finding it hard to relate to his also grieving stepson, one guy who finds it hard to get a girlfriend goes off to the States. All the stories are intermingled a little, and they come together on Christmas Eve. Oh yes, and there's a nauseatingly annoying Christmas record being recorded.
I do want to say more, and I'm hunting for a plot of some sort, but there's nothing, it's about love and how it happens to be all around as in:
'I feel it in my fingers I feel it in my toes, Love is all around you ...'
My opinion:

And don't get me started on Bill Nighy's performance as an ageing rock star clawing his way back into the charts by releasing a Christmas single. Awful, awful, awful, words cannot describe his over-the-top, cloyingly embarrassing, and strange character and performance. Like Rod Stewart mixed with Ozzy Osbourne crossed with a washed up Mick Jagger.
There's no plot to speak of just some questionably connected short dramas, and there was just too many characters, and the connections between them are so flimsy that a strong wind would shatter them to infinity. I found it quite hard at first to determine who all the people were and what the connection between them was, I was still quite confused half-way through because although the film was progressing in a manner none of it made much sense.
I truly wanted to like it, I wanted to feel warmth and hopeful, especially watching it in the run up to Christmas, cause it is quite Christmassy, only in that the action (I actually quiver at my use of that word in this context but I don't know what else to call it) takes place in the run up to Christmas and culminates on Christmas Eve, I wanted it to make me feel all warm and fuzzy, but it left me more bemused and feeling slightly nauseaus because it was too empty, too cloyingly sentimental and full-blown trite and uninspiring.
I'm sure there are many who would disagree with me, possibly weeping sentimental tears at the heart-pulling tear-filled moments and bemoaning me as being cynical and misanthropic, but I'm not I cry buckets at Forrest Gump and The Green Mile. But this film was nothing short of pornographic sentimental saccharine nonsense.
The soundtrack to the film includes songs from Norah Jones, Dido, Joni Mitchell and Maroon 5 which complement the film in it's more tender moments shall we say.
Extra features:
The extra features include audio commentary, deleted scenes, trailer gallery, musical highlights and a 'making of' featurette.

Readily available at most retailers selling DVDs etc. Available for approximately £6 on Amazon, and at about £3.60 on Amazon Marketplace, alternatively look on Ebay.
My last word:
I really wanted to like this film but was sorely disappointed, it's disjointed, overly sentimental, and lacking in depth, the characters are so under-developed that you feel nothing for them and the strands of interconnectedness are fragile and even at the end do not fully integrate into any cohesion. And once that song's in my head I just can't stop singing it ... 'I feel it in my fingers I feel it in my toes ...'
(Oh and by the way the title of my review refers to the name of one of the songs sung during the film and does not indicate any Christmas present listing of any sort!)
Advantages: warm-hearted, cute, funny, great soundtrack Disadvantages: A bit sappy, some scenes make it inappropriate for children
Love, Actually is one of my favorite movies. It's sappy without being too over the top, it's funny, warm-hearted, and is the perfect fix when you're looking for a chick-flick that won't make you completely dissolve, but will still give you that satisfying warm glow. And as an added bonus, it has a stellar cast who turn in some lovely performances. It's basic premise is that love is actually all around (it's working title in the UK), and it follows ... ...Perhaps the biggest success of Love, Actually stems from the fact that despite so many subplots and characters, the movie never feels overwhelming, confusing, or impersonal. The viewer gets quick but insightful vingettes into each character's life, and to me, the ability of this cast to pull off characters that connect with the audience despite such relatively short screen time is impressive. The movie is a nice mix of lighthearted and serious - ...

Advantages: Feel Good Film , Christmassy , Romantic Disadvantages: Hugh Grant Plays Usual Character!
Christmas is fast approaching , and so beings as I havn't written a new review for around two weeks , I thought I would write a review on something Chrismassy and this is where the film Love Actually comes into it.
Love Actually is a British film which comes under the romantic comedy genre. It was released in the United Kingdom in 2003 and was directed by Richard Curtis. The film stars many 'big names' including Hugh Grant , Keira Knightley and ... ...actors and actresses. Running time of the movie is 135 minutes ( two hours and fifteen minutes)
The film as the title suggest is based on love. The storyline revolves around a number of couples or potential couples rather than just one couple. I won't say anymore because I think that this would give the plot away and therefore spoil it for the viewer.
Although this film was extremely popular and 'bigged up' at it's time of release I hadn't actually ...

...that are trying to find love, or not even looking for it but it happens. Its based around the Christmas festivities and people getting ready for the celebrations. Focused at a range of different people from people living in the east end of London, to high calibre business men, it shows how love can blossom when you least expect it. Sometimes its right, sometimes its wrong.
The Stories
David and Natalie
David (Hugh Grant) is Britain's Prime Minister, ... ...and thinks he is in love, however the girl does not like him back. Its a really nice storyline which brings stepson and stepfather closer as they engage to win the heart of the girl at school.
Harry (ALan Rickman) is a happily married man to Karen (Emma Thompson). The pair have children and are committed to each other. Harry is a business man who has a very tormentive secretary that has set her sights on him and basically wants to eat him alive. ...

Emma Thompson - Karen
Hugh Grant - David
Martine McCutcheon - Natalie

Liam Neeson - Daniel
Keira Knightley - Juliet

Love Actually is one of my favourite films, ... ...and has been perceived as cheesy by many people I think that this is simply a feel good film that should be taken on face value. This is written and directed by Richard Curtis who is definitely the king of British rom-coms and sitcoms, his previous work includes: The Vicar Of Dibley, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones and Blackadder. The man can do no wrong so as soon as this film hit our screens back in 2003 it was obvious that it was going to be a huge ...

British comedies since Educating Rita, I’d have to say. Love, Actually is a film, not only about love, but the ups and downs of love. Love, Actually is a film to watch at Christmas, mostly, but can also be enjoyed any other time.

♥ Music highlights, actually. ♥
The music was a big part in the film. There were over 20, well known, songs on the film, and each was spectacular and unique in their own way. They fitted; they did what they needed to. The music highlights section consists of the video for “Christmas Is All Around”, sang by Billy Mack (a.k.a Billy Nighy) and also five of the songs from the film, with an introduction by Richard Curtis. I found the reason why Curtis has picked certain songs intriguing and I really enjoyed this part of the DVD. It was ...
