~ LOST IN DESTRUCTION~ LOST SEASON 1 ~
After just finishing the fourth season I decided to start the whole series again before the fifth is out on DVD. From the moment the first episode was released on TV I was addicted and watched every singly one after that. Since Lost had moved to Sky however I have not been able to watch them as soon as they come out as I do not have Sky. I was gutted but just hired out the fourth season which was brilliant. For those of you who do not know anything about it here is some information for you.
~ WHAT IS LOST? ~
Lost is an American television series that was released on channel 4 in the UK in 2005. It follows the story of survivors from a plane crash of an Oceanic flight from Sydney, Australia to LA. There were 71 survivors from a plane of 300. The plane crashes on a mysterious island which seems totally deserted. Each season follows their survival and each character's past and what brought them to fly on this air craft.
~ MAIN CHARACTERS ~
Sayid Jarrah- Navven Andrews
Sayid 36- is a former Iraqi Republican Guard who was used in wars to torture prisoners and as a communications engineer. He is a strong, intelligent man and knows many survival techniques. He hides his past from the others but shows a willingness to help with everything and he has a skill with fixing electricals. He is trusted by many characters after he fixes a radio in the first few series.
Jack Shephard- Matthew Fox
Protagonist Jack Shephard is the first main character introduced to the audience. He is a troubled surgeon who works in a hospital saving lives. He has a privileged upbringing and follows his dad's career trying to be a successful surgeon as he was. Jack is shown as caring, heroic and strong as he pulls people from the wreckage at the start. He is the one who gets people together and is seen as the leader of the group. Jack has an attraction with Kate who rescued him after the plane crashes.
Known to the others as just Sawyer, James is an ex con man who ripped money off wealthy men. He is unpredictable, sarcastic and a flirt. He is not seen as being helpful at the start and he is shown as someone who'd rather be on his own. He shelters away from the others and hides things he has found from them. He seems to instantly clash with the others and is blamed for a lot of things that go wrong, he is not trusted by anyone.
Kate Austen- Evangeline Lilly
Kate is a convict who was being transported back to the states after being accused of murdering her alcoholic step-father. After surviving the crash she immediately gets her hand cuffs off hiding the fact she is a convict and helps an injured man (Jack) to safety. She is a independent women, with strong opinions and good survival instincts. She is quiet about her past but helps the camp. Kate has an immediate attraction to Jack.
The comical character of the series, Hugo is a fast food counter worker who wins the lottery just before the plane crash. He never has good luck and lives at home with his mum. Hurley is seen always trying to help and most of the time he gets in the way. He is funny, kind hearted and gets on with the others very well. He befriends Jack as he is seen as dependable and he cares for Claire helping her in any way he can.
John Locke - Terry O'Quinn
John is an ex Box Office Company worker who had an accident landing him in a wheel chair. He is introduced after the crash where he is able to walk away from the burning plane. He is seen as a brave, intelligent man who can take care of himself in dangerous situations. He keeps himself to himself and shares no past information with the others giving him a mysterious view from the others. He does help the other though in hunting for food and building shelters like he is an expert warrior.
~ Other Characters in Season 1 ~
Claire Littleton - Emilie De Ravin
Claire survives the crash and being very pregnant is surprised her baby survives too. She needs a lot of help from the others which Hugo does with no question. Her past has a lot of secrets about her pregnancy but no one really knows about her as she is quiet and obedient.
Charlie Pace- Dominic Monaghan
Charlie is a Heroin addict and rock star that has a lot of problems. He takes an interest in Claire and helps her out with Hugo. He helps the group when he can but struggles to cope without his drugs and starts seeing things on the island which makes the others believe he is going crazy and they don't trust him.
Michael Dawson- Harold Perrineau Sun Kwon - Yunji Kim Jin Kwon - Daniel Dae Kim
~ OPINIONS ~
I loved this series and was hooked from the moment it began. It had everything you needed to keep you highly entertained- lots of action, twists and love plots. The formats of the episodes were really interesting. They had the present drama of the plane crash with flash backs from different characters to find out more about their past and who they are. I liked the way they did this and it really helped with the development of the main characters. It also kept it interesting as the island is only one location it brought others to the screen so you didn't get bored with it just having action on one island. The audience were told secrets before other characters found out which was good to know. Each episode was a good length at 45 Mins long which gave enough time to develop the story and characters well. They also ended with cliff hangers to keep you on your toes and wanting to watch the next episode. This was a pain when it was aired once a week. They also gave a summary at the start of each episode to what has already happened which was great after waiting a week you can forget important details.
I loved the difference in characters in the series. Each were very different with their own secrets and problems which are revealed at some point. The only character I didn't really get was John Locke. There was not a lot of information given on him and when he walks away after being sat in a wheel chair it brings many questions to the air. He is mysterious and he doesn't tell anyone a lot about him so you find yourself really looking to find clues on who he is. Most characters though had very enjoyable backgrounds and the mixture gave it a superior atmosphere. I especially liked the character of Kate. It is unusual to find that she is a convict and really is the most dangerous out of them all but is not seen like this by the others. She has a great attitude and likes to be helping just as much as the men. She is sassy, dominant and portrays herself as being able to handle herself.
There are a lot of people I know who couldn't get into this and that there is the only downfall of the series. You have to really concentrate while watching it and if you miss an episode a lot of information is missed which is vital to know. Even though many couldn't be bothered to keep up with the fast pace and highly loaded details of each person, I think this is why it kept me addicted to watch more.
