i started watching lost a few months ago when i got the Lost Series 1 Boxset, and i must say, its definetly the greatest series i have ever watched, ever, this is not an ordinary drama, its a drama/horror/mystery and can even be quite funny at times, and what makes it even more great, is that nearly the whole story line, and the characters storys, could actually happen, but only under great coincidencil circumstances....

Lost begins when oceanic flight 815 crashes on to a deserted island somewhere in the pacific ocean 1000 miles off course of the original destination, luckily a doctor named jack survives the crash, and is quickly to the aid of other injured passengers, at first just seems like a classic scenario, but as the story progresses you delve deeper into the characters lives on the island, there previous lives at home, and why they are here, and the mysterious forces surrouding the island.in some cases its like the island brought the characters to them and how this is shown is very impressive, although there are may many twists in lost, and can be hard to keep track of, most things that happen in lost actualy could happen, that is what makes lost so interesting to watch , it emphasizes the power of coincidence.

what else that makes lost extremely interesting is the use of character flashbacks, when this happens, there flashback usually relates to the current situation on the island, and it also shows that all the characters are conneceted to eachother somehow, the island is like a second life, because what happens on the island does actually relate to there previous lives at home.

So, The suriviors of oceanic flight 815 set up camp, gather some food thinking there going to be rescued, but shortly discover that there not.so they start wondering round the island trying to find anything that could be of help to them, they soon discover a transmission that has been picked up with a transceiver there salvaged, that has been running for 16 years, this is where the story starts to get interesting, they dont locate the source of the signal, but one character (sayid) leaves camp feeling guilty for his actions to another survivor and discovers who made the broadcast, she is a french woman who got stuck 16 years ago, a few months after she landed on the island, she gave birth and her baby was stolen from her, by the "others" later in the series, a group named "dharma" capture one of the pregnant islanders, taking great interest in her baby, and injecting it with antidotes so that it doesnt get "sick" later the kidnapped woman escapes but cant remember anything, its not till later that she starts gettign flsah backs of what happened to her, and sees the french womans child, now 16 years old, amongst all this there are many other twists and interconnected storys, keeping you thinking the whole time what is goign on , but each episode provides you a few answers, but gives you alot more questions

the story line is equsite, it is a masterpiece,it plays with your mind just as much as it plays with the islanders minds, when i got this dvd i actualy watched all the episodes, straight throuhg as nearly each episode would end with eiter someones life hanging in the balance, a new discovery about to be explored, but the story is not pure mystery and adventure, it allso shows the islanders, when there not exploring underground hatches, or shooting polar bears, in the middle of the pacific, it shows them actualy living on the island, and this is done tremenddoulsy well by the amazing actors that come with this smoking hot story line.

there are 14 main characters in lost, one oof the biggest casts of key characters ever, they all play a significant part in the story, and some episodes just focus on maybe 3 or 4 of the characters, whilst others let you take a broader look.

the charecters are.

-jack
jack is there "hero" of the island as he is a doctor and saved many lifes just after the plane crash by reviving people etc, he is on the plane because of the death of his father, and fellow doctor, one of his key flash backs, is when he is telling a patient that there chances of survival are very low, but his father says to him , give them hope, then on the island, where everyone is in fear of being attacked by the "others" he remembers that and gives them hope by sayign everytthing will be fine when he himself is tottaly unsure of that.

-locke
locke is the "hunter" and "explorer" he makes some very fasinating discoveries around the island, and seems to have a physic element about him(being able to predict the rain etc) a mirracle also happened to him, as he was paralyzed from the waist down before the crash, but now on the island, he walks again, and his sceptic thoughts about the island beign his "destiny" do confuse others.

-hurley
hurley is a large bloke, and is quite funny at times, he though is only he because of the island, the island did bring him here, hsi story is very very interesting, and is not a magical fairy tale story its a completely possible story of why he is on that island.definelty a key character of lost.

-kate
kate is like your "lara croft" of the island she can use a gun etc, but before she came on this isalnd she was a convicted killer,after her and jacks short intimate moments, jack finds out about her being a criminal and is never sure of her motives, so finds it hard to trust her.

-sawyer
sawyer is a very intersting character with a imaginative vocabulary of nicknames for the other islanders, usualy quite offensive to the boys, he is one of the favourite characters on the island, although quite mean and with a short temper, sawyer still seems to be liked by the ohter islanders, definetly one to watch

-sayid
he is a hardened soldier, but as the story progreses you see his soft side, he is a good man and knows alot about electronics, etc, his soft side is revealed on the island when someone he gets very close to dies.

-claire
claire is a australian women whos very pregnant witha baby she was goign to adopt, even though she was told by a psychic that she shouldnt, in one of her flashbacks, she is seeing the physchic and he sees something terrible and says she must not adopt the baby, his visions are assumed to be the plane crash because if she doesnt adopt the baby she doenst have to travel the give it to there new parents...

-micheal
micheal is the son of a 10 yr old boy that is also on the island with him he is determined to get his son off the island although there relationship is a bit rusty at start, because of micheal not being able to see his son due to his protective mother, he is still a good father and very protective

-walt
walt is the son of micheal he actualy likes being on the island and savatages a plan to get of the island because of this, he doesnt take much notice of his father at first but his relation ship with him does grow, he also seems to have a physchic tendancy about him, by telling locke not to open something that he has discovered because bad things wil happen, but it is opened anyway, and in the long run things ge worse.

-charlie
charlie is an english bloke, part of a rock band named drive shaft, they way him and england are portrayed isnt very good, but he is still a good character, more of his more intersting sides is his drug problem which he has to battle throughout the eries, and after finding alot of heroin on the island it seems like things only start to get worse...

-shannon
shannon is the most annoying character in the series, she never helps and is only thoughtfull of her self, her relationshos with boone becomes quite weird after a few episodes when the flash backs are shown, and what happened between them.

-boone
boone was with locke when they discoverd a hatch inder the ground, and they get to know eachother quite well and become good friends, he also ha obbsessive tendancies of shannon..

-sun
sun is a korean woman and at first is controled by her husband, jin, they are seperate from the ohter islanders because of there language, she is very shy at first, but as the story progresses she opens up and a very surprisng secret is discovered about her

-jin
initlay he wants to keep away from the other islanders, and is very sure he doesnt need them, eveuntualy he intergrates with the others, and his story in his old life is also very interesting.;

the way the actors portray there given characters is done in a very good fashion, it is superb, it is some of the best acting i have seen and then being able to amazingly act different emotions and feelings in different situations, really gives you an inside in depth look at the characters, and there lives, and the story is amazing, writing scripts for 14 differnet characters means alot of thought has been put into this creating an absolute masterpiece, its original,its intriguing, not only is this a story about fighting for survival on a deserted island, but a story about peoples lives, and the psychology boyond it

its an incredibly dense storyline, and needs a lot of thinking ot fully understand the mysteries amongst the island and the occupants something new is discovered and something old answered on every episode, if you miss an episode you might be a bit lost on where the story is going but if youre looking for something new and original i cant think of anything better than lost

the series one box set has many extras from the characters before lost, some delted scenes, commentry etc

i definelty reccomend it, its the best thing i have ever watched,and i cant wait till 2010 when the last episode is aired, and the mysteries are revealed!!!
