Well, I just finished watching series 2 on Thursday and I thought it would be a good idea to write a review on series 1 - First of all - I will only talk about the first series in this review until the very end so - I promise me wont spoil anything.
The main story of lost is very simple - a plane from Sydney to Los angles crashes - survivors land on a - deserted island?? - About 40 odd people survive and are all camped out on the beach. At first - as you would normally think - they all believe that they will be rescued within a few days, but their hopes are swiftly diminished when their pilot tells them that they were 1000 miles off course - and then the pilot is eaten by some dinosaur monster thing!! That's kind of where it gets a bit weird. It's a really good show but, you have to realise that it is not real and would not be as entertaining if it was just ordinary.
The main characters of the show are as follows
Jack Jack is a doctor, and this gives somewhat of a leader status among the group, I don't like Jack personally - because he always thinks he is right and usually ends up making the situation worse. He is quite friendly with most people - and he has a bit of a love interest with Kate - He dislikes Locke - due to a clash of personalities.
Kate Probably could be classed as the looker of the group, previously - before the plane crash - she was a criminal - on the run - she had killed a few people including her childhood sweetheart, robbed a bank - to get a toy plane, but overall in life she was quite hard done by. Circumstances had led to her downfall. On the island she is involved in most of the main stories - usually giving a calm perspective on a situation.
Sawyer Sawyer is probably my favourite character, he was a con artist - who at the age of 5 had watched his dad kill his mum and then kill himself. This was down to a con artist - so it led sawyer to become a con artist as well - he is ruthless - but his main aim is to kill the con artist who - led to his parents deaths. On the island, he first sets out by going through everyone's suit cases, -those who died anyway- and also through their pockets, stealing possessions - and then selling them on the black market so to speak.
Locke Locke loves it on the island and does not want to leave. Previous to the accident - he was in a wheelchair, but now he can walk!!! He believes that if he leaves the island he will lose his ability to walk. He loves general island life, and is extremely happy with his current situation and believes that everyone was brought to the island for a reason.
Michael Michael has a son Walt, who he has just being given custody too after his ex-wife died. The series starts with a rift between father and son, and their relationship gradually gets better, over the course of the series. He does not want to be on the island and builds a raft in an attempt to get rescued.
Walt Walt is a very strange lad, he appears in awkward places - knows things he shouldn't, really he is just a bit weird. His mum has just died and the man he classed as his father has disowned him, and now his real father is looking after him. It's all quite hard for a 10 year old.
Hurley Hurley is a lottery winner, but a very unlucky one. Since his lottery win everything has been going wrong in his life. His uncle had a heart attack when he found out the news; his mum's mansion which he brought for her, burnt down as son as he signed the papers to buy it - really, bad luck just follows him around. Also he is very overweight - but has not lost any weight since his arrival to the island - strange??
Charlie Charlie is a heroine addict when he arrives - but thought the help of Locke he
manages to give up. In his normal life he was in a band - he has been quite hard done by in life - betrayed by his brother. He is very religious and his stay on the island is a test of faith. He has a close relationship with Claire and is probably the only other thing that he cares about other than himself.
Claire Claire is pregnant when she arrives - this baby, a baby she was previously going to give up for adoption. She is taken by Ethan, and disappears for a while - Ethan is an 'other' - but anyways, she comes back but has no memory of any of her time on the island. She has the baby, but is very anxious of her baby been taken <---
Jin and Sun Well I thought id do these two as a pair - because they are the only couple. The series starts with Sun looking like a depressed housewife who is bullied by her husband. They are both Korean -but sun has learnt how to speak English without her husband's knowledge - before the plane crash. Well he eventually finds out - and the two part ways.
Sayid Sayid is an ex Iraqi soldier who fought in the first gulf war. He uses some of his torture techniques on sawyer - but he is not happy doing this. He is involved in most situations and adventures on the island. If you get the chance - you should hear sayid's real voice - it's so funny.
Shannon and Boone Shannon and Boone are two very rich half brother and sisters. Shannon acts like a spoilt brat - spending half her time sun bathing. While Boone be-friends Locke - which leads to his eventual death - when he falls off a cliff. Boone tries to fit in with everyone else - while Shannon distances herself - until she gets a bit close with sayid.
Well these are the main characters - the shows main focus is on these characters - although some other characters are mentioned or involved. I think the great thing about this show is how the relationships build up, and how each of the characters develops and also your opinions of them.
Episode Guide --------------------------- Each episode in lost has the same sort of pattern. Apart from the first two episodes the rest focus mainly on one character. It shows flashbacks which relate to situations on the island about an individual character. Usually episodes end with a cliff hanger making you want to know more.
Pilot The plane crashes - scattering the survivors from the front of the plane all over the beach. Jack, Kate and Charlie go to the front section of the plane, to try and find a radio transmitter. They find the pilot - who is still alive, who tells them they were 1000 miles off course. He is then eaten by a monster type creature. This is the first signs of a relationship between jack and Kate.
Pilot - Part 2 Michael tries to improve his relationship with Walt, but makes matters even worse. Sayid is accused by sawyer of blowing up the plane, as a suicide bomber. Sayid then tries to fix the transmitter - and a few of the islanders go on a trek to get some higher ground. On the way they shoot a polar bear, yes a polar bear. When they receive a signal, it is already transmitting a message which has already been running for 16 years. The message is in French and is asking for help.
Tabula rasa This episode is heavily focused on Kate - in a flashback it shows her time on a farm in Australia where she is on the run from a US Marshall. This is the same US Marshall who was with Kate on the plane; he dies in this episode after he is shot by sawyer. Walt becomes friendly with Locke - who finds his dog, this angers Michael who starts to become jealous of Locke.
Walkabout This episode is focused on Locke. In the flashback it shows Locke and his previous life in a wheelchair. Now he is on the island, he can walk and loves it - he shows the rest of the island his knife collection, which he proposes going hunting with. While hunting, he comes face to face with the "monster" and starts to test his faith and his ability to walk. Jack sees a man in a suit in the woods.
White Rabbit This episode is focused on jack and his relationship with his father. Jacks father died in Australia, this is why he was there in the first place and this episode revolves around jack wanting to bury his father. After finding his fathers coffin and burying him jack proposes that all the islanders move to a cave which he found inland.
House of the rising sun This episode is all about Jin and Sun, while most of the islanders move inland to the cave, the episode focus' is on the relationship between jin and sun. Off the island, they have what seems like a loving relationship - while on the island, Jin looks like an evil dominating husband - previously he was a devoted lover to Sun. Also Michael finds out that Sun speaks English.
The Moth Charlie the rocker from Driveshaft is addicted to heroine and this episode is focused on him trying to give up heroine. The flashback shows how he was betrayed on a promise by his brother, which led him to start taking drugs. Charlie is given an ultimatum by Locke about his drugs. Also Jack and Charlie get stuck in a hole, but are rescued by a moth.
Confidence Man During this episode, you see Sawyers previous life as a con artist; in the flashback you see how he conned a woman and her husband. Also on the island Sawyer won't give Shannon her inhaler, and gets tortured by Sayid, in order to find out where they are. But he doesn't have them anyway but pretends he does to get a kiss off Kate.
Solitary After following a wire from the beach, Sayid gets captured by a French woman Rousseau. She wants to know where Alex is, but sayid does not know what she is talking about. During the flashback, you see Sayid's previous life as an Iraqi soldier, where he sets free a prisoner who he falls in love with. And Hurley makes a golf course to relieve some stress.
Raised by another Claire has nightmares that someone is trying to take her baby. During the flashback, it shows how Claire's baby's father left her as the baby was going to be born, which leads her to think about adoption. Then Claire is attacked and no-one believes her, this then leads Claire to run away, then Claire thinks she is going to have her baby, but Charlie is close at hand to get help. Before jack can get to Claire, Ethan arrives looking really scary.
All the best cowboys have daddy issues Ethan kidnaps Claire and Charlie but is closely followed by jack, Locke, Kate and Boone. A flashback shows how jack gets his father fired after his dad operates while drunk. Meanwhile jack and Kate split from, Boone and Locke while on the trail of Ethan. This leads jack into the path of Ethan who warns him to stop following him otherwise he will kill Charlie. Jack ignores this threat which leads to Charlie been hung, but is saved after a frantic beating from jack. Meanwhile Boone and Locke uncover a mystery of the island, an unopenable door in the middle of the jungle floor. But there is still the unanswered question of what happened to Claire.
Whatever the case may be Kate and sawyer find a Waterfall / lake - where they under the water they spot some of the dead passengers, and a silver suit case which Kate says belongs to her. In the flashback it shows how Kate robbed a bank to get a toy plane which previously belonged to her boyfriend. This toy plane is in the silver suit case which Kate struggles to open.
Hearts and mind The flashback in this episode shows the close relationship between Boone and Shannon. Locke ties down Boone in the jungle, which causes Boone to hallucinate, imagining that Shannon gets killed. Also Sayid and Shannon's relationship grows.
Special Michael's jealousy of Locke grows to greater limits when he finds Locke teaching Walt how to throw a knife. In the flashback it shows the relationship between Michael and Walt's mum and how she left him for another man. Michael starts to build a raft to get off the island, and Walt is attacked by a polar bear after he runs away. Claire wonders out of the jungle at the end of the episode.
Homecoming Claire returns with no memory of life on the island since the plane crash. Charlie tries to help her remember, while in a flashback you see how Charlie fed his drug addiction. Ethan comes back in search of Claire so the islanders set a trap.
Outlaws Sawyer hunts a bore which knocked him over with the help of Kate, while in a flashback you see how sawyer attempted to kill the man who killed his parents.
.. In translation Tensions flare on the island with Jin, Sun and Michael. During a flashback you see how Jin and Sun's relationship went from love to hate. Michael's raft starts to progress nicely until it is set alight.
Numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 - these are the numbers used by Hurley to win the lottery; this lottery win causes much bad luck including his Granddad having a heart attack upon hearing the news. Jack, Sayid, Charlie and Hurley go looking for Rousseau.
Deux Ex Machina This episode shows how Locke was tricked by his father into giving up one of his kidneys. Meanwhile on the island Boone and Locke have no luck in attempting to open the hatch the door. They both go in search of a plane which Locke saw crash in his dream. When they find the plane Boone falls out and gets seriously injured. And Locke gets angry about not being able to open the hatch.
Do no harm Boone dies after falling from the plane on top of the cliff. In a flashback you see jack in preparation of his wedding. Meanwhile Claire has her baby with the help of Kate and it's very healthy.
The greater good The islanders bury Boone, and in a flashback it shows how Sayid ended up in Australia. Shannon sets out to get revenge on Locke for Boone's death which she blames on him.
Born to run In a flashback you see Kate's previous life on the run and her love of her childhood sweet heart. Meanwhile on the island the raft prepares to set sail. Locke tells sayid and jack about the hatch and Michael is poisoned by someone.
Exodus Part 1 Rousseau returns and tells the islanders that the "others" are coming. The raft breaks, and Michael blames it on Sawyer. Jack and his fellow comrades go looking for dynamite at the Black rock. Michael, Jin, Walt and sawyer set sail on the raft. During many flashbacks it shows the journeys of the passengers before their flight.
Exodus Part 2 and 3 Rousseau takes Claires baby in an offer of a trade with the others. A flashback shows Hurley's journey to the airport, this is easily the funniest moment during the entire series. The islanders get dynamite and open the hatch but leave many unanswered questions. On the raft, Walt is taken by some people on another boat, the raft alight and Michael, Jin and sawyer are left stranded.
Ok well that's the episodes and characters done and now to some secrets of lost. If your a lost fan and don't want anything to be spoilt the don't read what's written below. But some of these questions im sure you're dying to find out. These questions are based on both the first series and the start of the second series.
Who took Walt on the raft??? Well from what I know now - I really don't know. What I do know will probably confuse you - but there are a group of people on the island who were there when the plane crashed. They took Walt because they thought he was special.
What does the button in the hatch do??? The button in the hatch saves the world. Seriously - 100% the button saves the world. It controls a magnetic field which overloads every 108 minutes, and the button sends out a static which cancels this out. When the button in the hatch is not pressed it is like a huge magnet and it attracts everything that's metal. This is why the plane crashed. Desmond the man, who was in the hatch, didn't press the button on September 22nd and this resulted in the plane been attracted to this magnet.
Does anyone else die??? Yes. Shannon dies, when she is shot by Anna Lucia. Anna Lucia dies when she is shot by Michael and he also shoots Libby at the same time.
Well These are the only questions I can think of at the moment, but if you have any questions about Lost I am 100% sure that I can help, if u leave a question on the comments page or in my guestbook. I really do know everything about Lost so if you have a question, im pretty sure I will know the answer. Well I hope you have learnt something from me writing this review. So thank you for reading and hopefully for rating. Cheers xxx.
