I was one of those lucky few who was there on the day. The day that music changed the world something that has continued ever since but has never been achieved up to this standard. I have been to many many live gigs but this one comes right at the top, I can still remember the shivers down my spine as I felt the excitement from crowds and performers alike so, when the concert was released on DVD I decided to purchase it. All proceeds from this dvd goes to the Band Aid trust to continue their help in feeding the world.
The 4 disc DVD is beautifully presented in a fold out cover which slips into a protective box., It contains an informative booklet giving information and glossy colour photographs from that day.. I was also interested to see that it contained some unseen footage and a documentary which was shown on the BBC a year after the concert to show how the money from live aid was spent. The concert kicked off from wembley stadium on Saturday July 13th at Midday joined by JFK Stadium Philadelphia.
I will start by telling you who I enjoyed on the day and I
will later give you the list of all participents.
Queen, where do I start everybody must have heard about this performance. I have to admit i always enjoyed Queen but was not a huge supporter of them but that all changed, as you can imagine there was an enormous amount of people that day and I am afraid we had started out early to get the best spot, looking at the programme you had to decide when would be a good time to use toilets etc. in the quickest time possible so as not to miss anything. I yes I admit decided that I would do this when queen came on as I thought the lines would be short and I could be in and out in the quickest time. I pushed my way through the crowd and had just take one step out of the stadium when I felt a surge of energy and noise that literally dragged me back forget the bathroom something was going on that was electric and as I made my way back I saw Freddie Mercury standing on the stage and all I can tell you is that this one performer had every single person there in the palm of his jand. WOW is all I can say, I had never felt anything like it before and I never have again and no I did not leave the stadium again for fear of what I might miss. I loved the video of david Bowie and Mick jaggers dancing in the street. The finale with Paul macartney was very moving eventually joined on stage byt everybody to sing Feed the World. Too many great performances to list.
The excellent thing about this concert is the chance to see performers you loved and performers you would not have usually take the time to see, this is what makes it such a worthwhile investment. you will be turned onto performers you would not normally have taken the time to listen to. 10 hours of footage takes a lot of time to work through. But its worth every minute of your time.
The quality of the film is as explained by Bob geldof as 'Variable' I will give you this information from the enclosed booklet as it is very difficult for me to explain in my own words " this is because 'it was recorded via satellite has been converted from ntsc to pal or because of damage over the years. All modern technology to repair any damage as far as they can and the footage has all been expertly colour graded" The concert is well filmed, it was a live concert and it was something that had never been achieved before pushing all boundries in a live satellite television broadcast so please remember this when you watch it. This is history being made.

These are the Artists that were officially listed to perform on the day but there are many other performances from many other artists who turned up for the day to perform such as Madonna.
For all those who were to young to remember this day please give this concert a watch as you will really enjoy it. I feel that the film did catch a huge amount of the atmosphere and love that day and this was a very special event with a VERY IMPORTANT cause that today is still is just as important as ever. All proceeds will go to the Band Aid trust so even if you buy a copy and only watch the groups, singers you enjoy, you will still be helping a very good cause.
Prices vary from each outlet but it can be purchased from £29.99 up to £39.99 WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY.
I know it is off topic but have asked for it to be moved and am still waiting.

Another cracking review, very informative. I watched it first time, saw the Queen performance and Bob Geldolf lose his cool (which was very understandable) when the reporter kept asking for the address (to send the donations to) when he replied "F*** THE ADDRESS!! . A very worthwhile exercise and something i'll never forget.
