Little Voice is a beautifully made, exquisitely acted film about an incredible singer who wishes to keep her talents to herself. LV (Jane Horrocks) is a sweet innocent soul, badly affected by her father’s death and living with her vile loathsome mother. She is a total recluse and never leaves the house. She has a passion for singing and escapes the crazy world she lives in by playing her collection of old records including Billie Holiday, Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich. She can imitate their voices perfectly, (which I am in awe of Jane Horrocks for, as she actually sings).
She has a unique gift which goes unnoticed by her loudmouth, cringesome hussy of a mother (Brenda Blethyn) but when she gets herself a new fella, Ray Say (Michael Caine) he hears LV and is captivated, he instantly starts plotting of ways to make money out of LV and sets up a gig for her. LV is horrified and does not want to go ahead but is pressured into it by Ray and her mother.
Her only friend is Billy, a telecommunications engineer who has a passion for pigeons, he makes friends with her by fitting a phone in her house. He is the only person who truly cares about her.
There is so much about this film that I love, you just have to see it, I love the part where little voice does the show where she can see her fathers spirit in the audience, it is truly amazing. I am sure you will agree.
Well what are you waiting for, get down to Blockbusters this instant! :)
