...I'm a big Jim Carey fan and as the nights get shorter so out DVD watching activity increases, so a few nights ago we decided to watch Jim Carey's latest effort - Fun with Dick and Jane.
The film focuses on the Dick Harper (Jim Carey) and his wife Jane Harper (Jane Harper), who have it all, a cute child, new large house and maid to look after the house & child and a nice BMW on the drive. Jane works as a PA (a job which she doesn't overly) and Dick for a large power supply firm. The main plot starts when dick gets promoted to Vice President of Communication (thus realising his dream of 15 years) and Jane quits her job to spend more time with their child.
What Dick doesn't know is that he has only been promoted to act as the fall guy on the US equivalent of the 'Money Programme', as, unknown to him, the company chief executives have...

...Carry On Dick was made in 1974 & was the last Carry On film for Sid James, who died on stage of a heart attack two years later.
Unfortunately, although it is a period piece & it looks great, with wonderful costumes again, it is a disappointing finale for one of Carry On's greatest stars.
Based on the legend of highwayman, Dick Turpin, Sid stars in the lead role, also as the Reverend Flasher. It is all seeming to be an increasingly familiar scenario, as Sid (then aged 60) plays the lecherous old man, lusting after Barbara Windsor (37). It appears a bit silly by now, despite art imitating reality in the way it did.
Although it has its shining moments as all the films do, Carry On Dick is a lacklustre offer in my opinion. Even Bernard Bresslaw is irritating in this one, with an annoying accent....

Advantages: One of the better remakes around Disadvantages: Long
...on the only person who understands what is happening to him - Dick. Although Dick is hundreds of miles away, he hears the call and comes running to Danny's aid. But will he make it to the Overlook Hotel in time? Will Danny succumb to the Hotel's spirits and their vile desires? What happens to Jack? What lurks in Room 217? And what's been forgotten? Sorry I'm not telling you - thats giving too much of the plot away!
Extras
~~~~~
The extras on this DVD are pretty self-explanatory and they are:
* Feature length commentary by Stephen King, Steven Weber (cast), Cynthia Garris (cast), Mick Garris (director) & Select crew
* 11 Additional scenes that were deleted from the final version. On watching these, I agree that they do nothing for the story and it is better without them.
* Scene Access
* Interactive Menus
