Life In The Freezer - David Attenborough
Review of Life In The Freezer DVD by ivytoad

Advantages: So interesting, fun to watch, educational
Disadvantages: I want more episodes!!

I really love 'The Life Collection' from David Attenborough. The complete series of 'Life in the Freezer' was the third dvd of the collection that I bought. The series itself has six episodes which are all on one disc. They were originally transmitted in 1993. The six episodes are: Episode 1: The Bountiful Sea - All about the Southern Antarctic Ocean and the species in it Episode 2: The Ice Retreats - About when Spring comes and the wildlife ...
...the extreme conditions and how life continues, against all the odds. Episode 6: Footsteps In The Snow - The first man to stand in the South Pole and the struggle to get there. The dvd has a total running time of 174 minutes and each episode is around 30 minutes long. There are no special features on this dvd apart from the option of 'scene selection', this is quite a common feature on dvds these days, and nothing that special but it is nice and ... Read review

Freezer footage with Sir David!
Review of Life In The Freezer DVD by TeenyWeeny06

Advantages: Great Picture Quality, Loads of content
Disadvantages: Nothing!

...way, capturing the essence of life in a world where ice is so thick that it conceals mountain ranges as vast as the Alps! This is the BBC at its best with a great in depth analysis of the seasonal cycles from the long winter months when the formation of ice almost doubles its surface area, to the brief summer when the race to breed really heats up. This DVD has it all and with footage of some of the most remarkable creatures on the planet it is a ... Read review

Life in the freezer
Review of Life In The Freezer DVD by maclennan33

Advantages: Its educational,brill captures,david attenbourgh
Disadvantages: none

...majestic, haunting, extraordinary look at life in Antarctica, the most hostile place on Earth. Producer/Director Alastair Fothergill and his brilliant team of cinematographers and sound recordists journeyed to the icy continent to record more than a year of life in the freezer. The emotions you feel while watching this are overwhelming and we are filled with awe and wonder at a continent that is closer to an alien planet than anything else within ...
...took both its inspiration and structure from "Freezer". Of course, Fothergill's depiction of the penguins' march possesses a stronger, more haunting quality, and the hostility of the environment is enhanced by George Fenton's stunningly effective musical score. The doco is not all penguins, though. We travel to the most arid part of the world where a seal has been mummified for centuries. We plunge into a blue, spooky canopy beneath the ice and explore ...
