Having thoroughly enjoyed some of Robin William’s previous films (Mrs Doubt fire , Flubber , Jack etc) , I was excited to hear that the man himself had a new film out. Robin Williams (well at least I think he has as I haven’t heard of any ‘recent‘ films of his) has been ‘away’ from the film scene for some time. So I decided to buy the DVD , License To Wed , despite all the negative criticism I had heard regarding the film.
License To Wed is an American Romantic Comedy movie released in the United Kingdom on 10th August 2007. The film stars , as previously mentioned Robin Williams and Mandy Moore. Running time of this movie is one minute over an hour and a half. This movie is a PG.
Sadie has found ‘the one’ and , her dream ever since she was a little girl , was to get married in her family church. However , unlucky for the couple , there is only one ‘slot’ available in the next couple of years. Although they soon discover that they could have their wedding in a couple of weeks. However to have their wedding then , the Reverend decides that they must go on a ’course’ taught by himself , with tasks , which will prove whether the couple are ready for marriage ? What will happen ? Watch License To Wed to find out!
First of all , the thing that stood out the most for me was the lack of chemistry between the two main characters. To think , the two characters were getting ready to get married. The way they ’were’ around each other , was as though they had never met before , and just stood there ‘saying their lines’. For me , this ruined the film because I just couldn’t take it seriously , and just thought of them as two actors playing the parts rather than two characters. I could have done a better job , I’m sure!
I found Robin William’s character (the vicar) extremely annoying. He was childlike and his character was so unrealistic. I know it’s a film , not a reality show , but I did expect the film to be a bit more realistic. I mean , could you honestly imagine a vicar behaving so silly ? Also the fact that he had a little sidekick , who was about ten years old , was quite weird. I have really enjoyed Robin’s performances in other films , however I just think this role definitely wasn’t for him!
As for the plot , apart from the 'weirdness' of some parts , it wasn't something i hadn't seen before! I've seen a lot of romantic comedies and this just seems a 'copy' of what I've already seen before!
I was extremely disappointed with this movie! It’s nothing compared to Robin Williams’ other films!
Don’t waste your time! Thanks for reading!
