First of all , the thing that stood out the most for me was the lack of chemistry between the two main characters. To think , the two characters were getting ready to get married. Having thoroughly enjoyed some of Robin William’s previous films (Mrs Doubt fire , Flubber , Jack etc) , I was excited to hear that the man himself had a new film out. Robin Williams (well at least I think he has as I haven’t heard of any ‘recent‘ films of his) has been ‘away’ from the film scene for some time. So I decided to buy the DVD , License To Wed , despite all the negative criticism I had heard regarding the film.

Sadie has found ‘the one’ and , her dream ever since she was a little girl , was to get married in her family church. However , unlucky for the couple , there is only one ‘slot’ available in the next couple of years. Although they soon discover that they could have their wedding in a couple of weeks. However to have their wedding then , the Reverend decides that they must go on a ’course’ taught by himself , with tasks , which will prove whether the couple are ready for marriage ? First of all , the thing that stood out the most for me was the lack of chemistry between the two main characters. To think , the two characters were getting ready to get married. The way they ’were’ around each other , was as though they had never met before , and just stood there ‘saying their lines’. For me , this ruined the film because I just couldn’t take it seriously , and just thought of them as two actors playing the parts rather than two characters. I could have done a better job , I’m sure!
I found Robin William’s character (the vicar) extremely annoying. He was childlike and his character was so unrealistic. I know it’s a film , not a reality show , but I did expect the film to be a bit more realistic. I mean , could you honestly imagine a vicar behaving so silly ? Also the fact that he had a little sidekick , who was about ten years old , was quite weird. I have really enjoyed Robin’s performances in other films , however I just think this role definitely wasn’t for him!
As for the plot , apart from the 'weirdness' of some parts , it wasn't something i hadn't seen before! I've seen a lot of romantic comedies and this just seems a 'copy' of what I've already seen before!
I was extremely disappointed with this movie! It’s nothing compared to Robin Williams’ other films!

Sunday afternoon and in a lazy mood and its time to watch another dvd from lovefilm called LicensetoWed a rom-com starring (Mandy Moore) as Sadie Jones and (John Krasinski) (who stars in American version of The Office) as Ben Murphy. A couple in love who get engaged and then in order to get married in her local family church go a marriage preparation course run by the Reverend Frank Highland (Robin Williams) and his preacher in training Josh Flitter as Choirboy.
Under the guise of promoting marital harmony, the Reverend Frank aims to "lower the divorce rate" by busting up incompatible twosomes before the wedding day. This involves him for three weeks to harass, browbeat and humiliate Moore and especially Krasinski in a series of bizarre challenges to ensure the sanctimony of their union.

for Malcolm in the Middle and the U.S. version of The Office amongst other things. His directing of the film is just rather minimal effort do what is necessary and no more directing. It's what you usually get with romantic comedies I find and I never really expect any more so it's not really a complaint as such. The story started off well enough I thought, it was very funny for the first 50 minutes. The Robin Williams scenes being the main source of humour but as the film went on it became more and more soppy romance film and less comedy. It became just like every other romantic comedy to the extent that you could predict exactly what was going to happen.
Robin Williams seems to be a lot like Marmite, you either love him or hate him. I think he's brilliant and I've convinced other people likewise with the Robin Williams: Live on Broadway DVD ...
Advantages: A couple of decent laughs. Disadvantages: Poor writing, lazy direction, bland performances.
Sadie and Ben meet and fall in love. They move in together and then Ben pops the question at her parents' anniversary party. She says "Yes" and they're all set to get married. Except Sadie wants to be joined in holy matrimony at her local church St Augustine's by Reverend Frank. And anyone that wants to get married in his church first has to pass his marriage preparation course. But it isn't as easy as it sounds seeing as they have to cover three months work in only three weeks and Ben feels the priest is putting obstacles in the way of his wedded bliss.
Had I realised "Licence toWed" was directed by the same man responsible for the dreadful "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" I would have given it a wide berth. He may have helmed several TV sit-coms but he has no idea how to develop a relationship or frame a joke. We see most ...

Review
The comedy, starring Robin Williams as a reverend who won’t marry couples until they have passed several ridiculous tests, raised a good few laughs (The Sun Online, 14/12/2007)
DVD Description
An all-star cast inhabits this romantic comedy about a couple who must endure a humiliating obstacle course of a marriage-training program in order to gain permission to wed from their church's over-the-top reverend (Robin Williams). Hilarity follows as the lovebirds (Mandy Moore and THE OFFICE'S John Krasinksi) put their devotion to the test. From the moment they met in a Starbucks line, the couple was prone to cute mishaps and clumsiness, but they also displayed amazing chemistry. Then Reverend Frank and his creepy child assistant intervene, putting Sadie and Ben through a torturous process which involves couples counseling, bedroom surveillance, and a very funny sequence in which the couple must take care of two robotic fake babies while shopping for their registry at Macy's. While Krasinski's average-guy expressions are fun to watch, his persona on the big screen isn't too much of a stretch from his role in the television sitcom. And Moore's typical likability becomes irritatingly upbeat in several scenes. Packed with OFFICE cameos, LICENSE TO WED promises laughs up until the end, where it veers towards the trappings of an archetypal romantic comedy.
