Many people see Jim Carrey as a rubber faced slapstick, even if he has taken on some more serious roles in recent years, most notably The Truman Show. Love him or hate him though, Jim Carrey has massive box office appeal, with Liar Liar one of his biggest ever hits, taking an estimated £200,000,000. Another reason for the enduring success of Liar Liar is its family appeal, even if the film loses its way in the final third by becoming far too sickly and sentimental, obviously trying to appeal to good old fashioned values. Going back to the comedy schtick as well-developed by his turn as ‘Ace Ventura’, Jim Carrey puts in a scintillating comic performance which would be hard to imagine any other actor could pull off. LiarLiar is an amusing comedy film with a bit of a clichéd plot.
