Director: Richard Donner. Producers: Richard Donner and Joel Silver Writers: Miles Miller, Jonathan Lemkin Channing Gibson and Alfred Gough. Stars: Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Joe Pesci, Chris Rock Jet Li and Rene Russo.
We see Riggs, (played by Mel Gibson) and Murtaughs (played by Danny Glover) in hot pursuit of Chinese triads smuggling people into the USA. With Riggs due to become a father to the internal affair officer Lorna Cole, (played by Rene Russo) this is the film where we see a much lighter side to the once psychotic suicidal cop.
**PLOT**
The show opens up with the famous partnership coming up against a gun toting, flame throwing, bullet proof sort of guy….
The funny Leo Getz (played by Joe Pesci) is again in this movie, this time playing the private Detective instead of an estate agent. We are introduced to a new character, Lee Butters, (played by the funny man Chris Rock), who is the young, up and coming police officer who is, unbeknown to Murtaugh, married to his daughter.
With Riggs and Murtaugh rescuing a Chinese family from the slave trade they encounter the wrath of the Triads. It just so happens that the father of the rescued family is closely related to a master counterfeiter who is working on the master-plates for printing fake Chinese currency.
The counterfeit money is to pay a corrupt Chinese General for the release of some triad overlords called the 'four fathers' from prison.
Riggs and Murtaugh happen to bump into a young, soft looking Chinese man called Wa Sing Ku, (played by Jet Li), it just so happens that Wa Sing is far from a soft Chinese man, he is a triad martial arts expert who takes great joy in throwing people around the room and snapping necks, (he also does a great trick involving the dismantling of a fire arm).
With Leo Getz playing his usual brilliant role as the lovable side kick he continues to add much humour to the script. He is asked to follow the very funny looking Uncle Benny, (played by Kim Chan), and when Uncle Benny finds out the trouble really starts.
When Riggs and Murtaugh let slip to the Generals team that the money isn't quite what it seems the bullets fly once more.
And with Riggs about to become a father and Murtaugh to be a grandfather is this the time for the dynamic duo to slow down?
**IN CONCLUSION**
The gun fights and the martial arts exhibitions really give the film some fantastic action. The special effects and stunts performed are brilliant and really give the movie the edge.
This movie is by far the funniest of the set, (even funnier than the car park bomb scenes in Lethal Weapon 3). It is again well written and well acted by the entire cast and crew, well worth adding to your DVD collection.
