So you saw Lethal Weapon one and two but missed the third. Well you don’t know what you are missing. The latest instalment Lethal Weapon 4 is the best in the series but this certainly comes a close second. It manages to retain humour, action and a great plot.
Once again Detective Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) provide a roller coaster ride that won’t disappoint. This time they are on the trail of criminals stealing weapons commissioned for destruction in a police lock-up. The plot enables Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) to retain his role from the second movie. He oozes with his usual hilarious charisma. Another addition to the crew is Lorna Cole (Rene Russo) an internal affairs detective who gives a helping hand with the case. It also provides a love interest for Riggs. It is a great plot that manages to cram in a lot of action.
The acting is once again stunning. Gibson has made Riggs calm down slightly from the previous instalments but still manages to make him retain his insane streak. He is superb in the action scenes and makes them appear so much more real. Murtaugh hasn’t changed much apart from feeling old. Danny Glover once again plays his character very well. The two lead men have an incredible on screen buddy relationship making it appear that they are real cop partners. I have never seen a film out with the series that recreates the on screen relationship between two male characters. Joe Pesci is excellent as Leo Getz. He makes the character annoying yet likeable in a strange sort of way. Rene Russo is great as the love interest of Riggs and to looks great in the action scenes. Overall I can’t flaw the acting at all. I guess I should mention the bad guys from the movie. Well they are pretty unknown actors but don’t let the movie down and manage to appear evil enough to fulfil the lot.
The action is simply incredible. The opening scene with the bomb in the building is superb. The crew were contacted and told that the building was getting knocked down and they could use it for filming if they so desired. They used the building with the intention of having a huge explosion. This they did but they didn’t mean to knock the building down!! It makes the film even better though. The action is non-stop with car chases, shootouts and explosions galore. Not to mention the martial arts style fighting employed by Riggs and Cole. It is great action and really keeps you interested.
Overall this is an absolutely great film that I can’t find any flaws with. It is a great addition to the series but is also independently a great action movie. If you haven’t seen it then I highly recommend that you give it a look because you don’t know what you are missing. Superb stuff.

Very good op (although if you'd seen Pesci in things such as Goodfellas or Casino, I don't think you'd describe him as having 'hilarious charisma' ;))
