Genuine fairytale, as it should be.
Review of Legend (Wide Screen) by Spacecat

Advantages: Great scenery, now familiar cast, good old-fashioned fariytale.
Disadvantages: May need some parental guidence for very young children.

The thing to remember when watching this movie for the first time is that it was meant for kids. Ridley Scot takes the simplest story, and leaving the story itself unchanged, delivers the most dramatic rendering of the original idea that he can manage. It is one of the rare ones that he has done with the intention of being viewed by the eyes of children, and therefore, we get a pretty basic tale full of good vs. evil, fairies and forest folk, demons ...
...when I was in my early teens, and I was absolutely smitten. Back then, I had no idea who Tom Cruise was (and neither did the rest of the world, I imagine) and I didn’t judge the film negatively at all. In fact, I was rapt by the scenery, all glittery snow landscapes, serene forests and secret blue pools overgrown with lush plants, where the Unicorns roamed. All this beauty was set off by the hooked nose goblin and his cronies, serving the big ... Read review

Legendary Escapism
Review of Legend (Wide Screen) by WhiteWitch

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, some well integrated moral questions, womderful escapism for those who are jaded by real life or who simply have not forgotten what it was like to be a child.
Disadvantages: At first glance it seems that it cannot make a good film, until you allow yourself to experience it first hand.

...looks almost as unbelievable as Legend did before watching. Would we trully risk all to save our less perfect world as Jack had done? Is right and wrong present here as it was in Legend, or is modern life a series of different greys? And can there really be a love which is pure, people who take responsibility for their actions and finally, a happy ever after? It seems rather unlikely. ... Read review

A young Tom Cruise faces the Lord Of Darkness
Review of Legend (Wide Screen) by filmfreak2005

Advantages: Lavish sets, a true fantasy fairytale, Tim Curry as good as ever.
Disadvantages: May scare young children.

This film, staring a young Tom Cruise and Mia Sara, is a fantasy fairytale which begins in an enchanted forest. Tom Cruise plays Jack, a peasant boy who has lived in the forest all his life, and has befriended its mythical inhabitants - fairies and unicorns. Mia Sara plays Lili, a young princess who is friends with Jack, and often visits him in the forest. Spoilt and head-strong, she often tries to boss Jack about, though the two have fallen in ...
...Of Darkness, (played by Tim Curry), has designs to create an age of darkness. To do so, the remaining two unicorns which dwell in the enchanted forest must be destroyed. If he succeeds, the sun will never rise again, and the world will be locked in a perpetual winter. When Jack takes Lili to see the unicorns for the first time, Lili makes the mistake of scaring them. Unknown by Jack and Lili, they were followed by goblins serving the Lord Of Darkness. ... Read review

...~~ The Rating ~~ This is rated as a PG, but very young children may need supervision whilst watching as it is quite scary in places ~~~ My thoughts ~~~ An excellent tale of myths and magic, legends and fables. Fairies, Goblins and mythical creatures excellently portrayed in the way that we imagine them to be. A classic childrens tale that is a must see for all those with a fantasy-type mind. This is a childrens film, but if you are an adult and ... Read review

Legendary - for the wrong reasons I think
Review of Legend (Wide Screen) by TheNeil

Advantages: Good visually
Disadvantages: Dull, casting

Somehow I've avoided this film. I don't know why, I don't know how, but I always seemed to miss it through one accident or another. Should I have tried harder? Should I have stopped playing at the edge of the abandoned mineshaft? The answer is sadly, No This is a fantasy film pure and simple. Nothing wrong with that but when the fantasy is of the simplest most obvious story possible then we're not looking good. It's simple but here goes anyway: ...
...his love (oo-er) he lets her see...the fabled unicorn (you wondered what I was going to say then didn't you, be honest). She touches one of them (this gets worse) and the forces of eveil use this breaking of the ancient laws to capture and kill one of the pair, bringing darkness to the land. You can guess where this is leading to so I won't continue but suffice to say it doesn't exactly lead you on a twisty turny path with revelation after revelation. ... Read review

Scary Stuff
Review of Urban Legend (Wide Screen) by  lesleyanne18

Advantages: Good
Disadvantages: Not alot

...I am writing a review on the Horror film Urban Legend The Storyline In an American Highschool, they tell alot of urban legends which happened in that school or area years ago - teachers use it for enlish classes. However - now the urban legends are coming true - and are happening to current students. What happened years ago in that old town is being re-created and one by one the students are being murdered. One girl who knows the urban legends sequence, begins to investigate as she was the only one who noticed how the pattern was formed. My Opinion I really enjoyed this movie , i watched it twice, and last nite i actually watched it from start to finish and as i forgot what had happened i was just dying to see how it was happennig. There were alot of twists and turns, and you never know who is the murderer. So many different clues... Read review

Do You Believe In Legends
Review of Urban Legend (Wide Screen) by  welshgq

Advantages: Keeps You Gripped
Disadvantages: Poor Ending

...Now i know this film has been out a long time but i have only just sat down and finally watched it and wasnt scared by this film its more of a jumpy film than a screamer . The film starts with a young woman driving along a dark road only to find out that the car is running out of petrol, she pulls into a petrol station the young woman flees away from the station when she thinks that the attendant a stuttering man is trying to attack her little does she know that he is trying to warn her that there is someone in the back of her car. Her death is one of a story of an old urban legend and the movie takes off from there. The film is set in a New England college and when the students start turning up dead in the fashion of the urban legends, one girl, her best friend and the campus journalist take it upon themselves to try and solve... DVD Description

Director Ridley Scott's lush fantasy film stars the young Tom Cruise as Jack, a peasant who lives in an enchanted forest with his beloved Lili (Mia Sara). One day, while quietly gamboling in a glade, the pair is distracted by the appearance of trolls, minions of the evil Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry). The cloven-footed, cavern-dwelling monster, long banished to the earth's nether regions, has sent the creatures on a mission to seize the horn of a unicorn, thereby plunging the planet into a frigid darkness over which he alone will reign. Things go from bad to worse as Lili succumbs to the forces of darkness, and Jack must assemble a motley band of elves to free her from bondage and return sunlight to the earth's surface. Sumptous art direction and overwhelming special effects are once again a testament to Scott's powers of visual invention.
