IF YOU ARE BLONDE AND FEMALE YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM! It has real girl power! I have just got back from seeing this film and whilst it is still fresh in my tiny blonde bimbo brain, I felt it necessary to write about it on Ciao (and I’m not even getting paid for it – that’s dedication for you!!!!).
The best way to see this film is by taking all preconceptions that you may have about it completely from your head! Most blokes will probably find this movie really dull – it’s a real girlie paradise! My mate & me came out of the cinema squealing with delight, whereas most blokes would wonder what all the fuss was about! This has got to be the ultimate chick flick – no doubt about it – an hour and a half of pure girlie pleasure, sit back and enjoy!
Storyline --------- Serious stuff now! The film is directed by someone called Robert Luketic (who I have never heard of, but being blonde I don’t
suppose I would have anyway!). Reese Witherspoon plays the main character, blonde and dizzy Elle Woods. Elle starts off going out with Warner Huntington (Matthew Davis) and is expecting him to propose after a romantic meal. However, he thoughts are drawn to the fact that she is really a bit of a bimbo – and that there was no way that his family would want Elle on board! He basically tells her that she is too blonde and he must concentrate on his studies at Havard Law School.
This seems to have a bit of an effect on Elle who takes it upon herself to start studying to get herself to Havard too – go girl! Anyway, with the help of a bikini clad promotional video, she gets there only to find that Warner has picked himself up a rather dull bird! I can’t remember her name but she wears clothes only fit for the jumble sale! Now Elle sees this as a bit of a competition and does her best to outshine the dull bird.
A rather humorous character is found at the local beauty salon (Elle’s refuge throughout the film whenever anything went wrong!) – and it is just so funny seeing her ongoing tries at pulling the local parcel delivery guy! Anyway, Elle is given a legal case to solve – an equally stunning blonde by the name of Brooke is accused of killing her older husband, and won’t tell anyone (but Elle) her alibi. Brooke is infamous for designing a workout for promoting weight loss and on the day that her husband was murdered, was actually having liposuction! As you can see, this is not a good thing to come from an exercise instructor! Elle is left with the ultimate challenge of proving Brooke innocent and in order to preserve some of the storyline, I won’t tell you anymore! There is a love interest involved as well, very dishy he is too (!), just in case you were wondering!
My Thoughts ------------ I personally loved the film, which is why I gave it 4 stars. It wasn’t mentally challenging but as a chick flick lover, I enjoyed every minute – it was just so easy to watch. Reese Witherspoon played the dippy blonde Elle superbly and even made a convincing job of appearing intelligent when she had to – in a blonde kind of way of course! The dog was played superbly er…by the dog too – a real cutie that fits in her handbags! The soundtrack was typically American trashy film stuff – I wouldn’t buy it to listen to at home but it really suited the film. The film only let itself down on the fact that it was a bit predictable, although this didn’t spoil my enjoyment, it did take a few of its jokes from elsewhere. The Bridget Jones bunny girl scene came into play again (did they use the same suit??!!).
Who would I recommend this film to? Anyone who likes an easy to watch, American type pile of trash – possibly you would have to be female as well! There are just some bits that blokes will find hard relating to, like why do us girlies go for manicures or the choccy box when we are upset! I didn’t get bored once throughout the film and time flew by really quickly! I left the cinema squealing with delight as it was quite sweet towards the end (something else blokes will have difficulty relating to!). Females, take a mate, grab a huge box of popcorn, sit back and enjoy! Do blondes have more fun?? Well if this film is anything to go by - DEFINITELY!
