I had a free ticket for my local UCI and I was bored last night so I checked to see what was on and saw that Legally Blonde was previewing…I’d seen the trailer, Reese Witherspoon is superb so off I went.(By the way I had a free ticket because on special packs of Dairylea Lunchables you get two tokens. Collect six and you can use ‘em to get a free ticket for any UCI cinema…a great deal!)
The basic premise is this. Reese Witherspoon is Elle Woods, your typical stereotype blonde high school girl. Homecoming Queen, loads of extra Curricular activities and the most popular girl in her Sorority. However she also has the best Grade Point Average so despite her ways she may not be as stupid as she seems.
Anyway, she believes that tonight her boyfriend is gonna propose but surprise surprise he breaks it off instead. The reasons being that as he’s going to Harvard Law he needs to be with someone serious.
Elle is gutted and decides in order to win him back she too must go to Harvard Law…even though she majored in fashion merchandising!
Suffice it to say she gets in, everyone hates her and she’s doing bad.
Can Elle turn it all around? What do you think?
She gets involved in a murder trial for an exercise instructor accused of murdering her husband.
Can Elle win the case? What do you think?
OK so this film is as predictable as they come but it doesn’t pretend to be anything else.
It’s OTT, ridiculous in parts but that’s precisely the point.
I realise that i haven't said that much about the plot but you can pretty much guess the rest...but it's not a bad point.
Many people have likend this to Clueless, but it's ac ompletely different movie.
Funny throughout if not always laugh out loud funny, and its the feel good film that I constantly search for during my long run of more depressing and nasty films.
I sat through this with a big dopey grin on my face and loved every minute of it.
The acting is good especially from Witherspoon, this only confirms what I already knew, that she is one great actress. It’s also good to see Selma Blair again (She co starred with Reese before in Cruel Intentions) as I enjoyed her previous work and she excels here as the bitch you want to see ruined by Elle…but I won’t go into that.
Funny, ludicrous, pure American popcorn. Watch it, laugh it and forget about it. A perfect way to spend an hour and a half without having to think!
Good stuff.
And yeah I know that many won’t watch this because it’s a chick flick, well that’s your choice guys. I though it was cool, but then I watch everything…
