Hello People!! Well…I thought after writing a review on Legally Blonde it was only fair that I wrote a review on the Second part to the film "Legally Blonde 2-Red, White and Blonde"…Bigger, Bolder and Blonder!! After a First hit show it isn't easy to come back with a second film but I must admit the film isn't what I expected at all, its much more better than what I was thinking!! Back in the first film we saw Elle Woods, battle for Brooke's justice of being innocent even though her professor assumed she was guilty, but with Elle having her girlie knowledge she managed to free Brooke from prison and find the person who was responsible!! Excellent work there Elle Well Done!! Being Blonde doesn't just mean being the stereotype dizzy blonde…Oh No Elle proves to be more than that, she is classy, smart and intelligent when it suits her!! Welcome back I say...the film was released in 2003, 2 years after the first film and was directed and written by different people!! It was directed by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld and written by Kate Kondell for the screen.
Main Characters
Some of the Characters from the first film are back and ready… but there are some new faces which brings some drama along the way for Elle…
Reese Witherspoon - Elle Woods Luke Wilson - Emmett Richmond (Elle's other
half) Jennifer Coolidge - Paulette (Back again yay) Sally Field - Rep. Victoria Rudd Regina King - Grace Rossiter Bruce McGill - Stanford Marks Dana Ivey - Congression woman Libby Hauser
Basic Storyline
I have to laugh while writing this as it probably sounds out of the ordinary which is what this film is…Elle is getting married to Emmett, and wants her dog Bruiser's mum to be there so she goes in search of reuniting Bruiser with his mum! But there are complications ahead…As she finds out that Bruisers mum is actually being used for animal testing on cosmetic products, she goes into anti-animal testing mode and manages to get herself fired from her law firm company! Elle is very upset that Bruiser's mum is being used for testing and decides to make a stand when she moved to Washington DC, Elle gets a job working in politics with Congression woman Victoria Rudd…and her co-workers make things very difficult for Elle!! Elle makes a stand and its called "Bruisers Bill" and she goes and speaks to all the politics about animal testing but does her speech make her heard?? She finds some truths behind other people's motives…Does Elle Succeed in this challenge??
My Opinion
I found this film really loveable for some weird reason, the storyline is out of this world and is just strange!! All this for a dog…who is comes out that he is actually gay, bless a gay dog!! But that doesn't stop her loving her doggy!! I found that in this film, there is the same old bitching, off course with her co-workers who take an instant dislike to her, again the typical blonde who they make fun of and make remarks such as "Capital Hill Barbie" but who gets the upper hand?? I believe it is always the bullies that are left wagging there tails behind them!! Elle plays such a different character she is off course the same old Elle but she is in love now and so much happier than the first film, she has her soon-to-be husband who of course supports her in every decision she makes! I have to be honest I wasn't too sure about the storyline at first as it just seem a bit odd, but she does so much more than just looking for a dog, she makes a stand and shows the world just what she is made of. She does however have competition in the film with someone who she doesn't suspect…of course us viewers can see what is going to happen!! I love the fact that they brought Paulette back she is such a lovable character, she is dippy…Sally Field in the film is her usual self a bitch and a character you either love or hate her - me I prefer her in "Mrs Doubtfire" and seeing her in this made me want to watch that!! I honestly didn't think that they could do a sequel to the first Legally Blonde film but hats of to the writers they have done a really good job!! We see Elle doing what she loves…voicing her opinions and being the girlie girl!!
Other info
The DVD runs for an hour and half which is not too bad, it is rated a PG rather than a 12 for the first film…But there is some mild language in the film!! You can watch the DVD with subtitles if need be. I got the DVD for £3 in Woolworths, they was sold out of box sets grrr… but hey ho never mind, but I am sure you can still get it for that price!!
Special Features
There is loads… ready… Blonde Ambition Pretty in Pink Stars and Stripes, Never! Hair Apparent Elle's Anthem Audio Commentary with Jennifer (Paulette) Outtakes Deleted Scenes "We Can" by Leanne Rimes Music video Trailer Photo Gallery
DID YOU KNOW (3rd FILM)
That there will be a THIRD Legally Blonde Film which I honestly don't think will be a hit, it isn't coming out in the cinema but is going straight to DVD in August this year 2008!! It does not involve Reese Witherspoon but it is going to be about her cousins who are British coming to America… Annabelle and Isabelle Woods played by Camilla and Rebecca Rosso who are Twins and have starred in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody which is Disney Channel, quite good actually!! I will have to see it but I don't think that it will be that good without Reese in it…come on writers Legally Blonde is all about Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoons)!!
Would I Recommend Legally Blonde 2??
Yes definitely, I think it is a bit better than the first one for some reason, I just think Elle is much more happier and has a stronger head on her. Thanks for reading Mell (June 2008)
