I've always been a fan of Lee Evans. So, i guess, this review is slightly biased. From the start, it's clear that Lee is one on his own in an age of dull, repetitive material, he's hyperactive, he's inventive, and he's a comic genius.
For those who haven't seen him before, he's got a very similar style of comedy to Ricky Gervais, possibly without as much cringeworthy humour, and albeit a Gervais with hyperactive sweat glands. The jokes are original, and very clever - something which alot of 'comedians' seem to exclude from their acts.
As a rule, Lee seems to take real life situations, and base generally damning stories around them, taking the p*** out of anything possible. One of my favourite jokes of his (coinicentally not from this DVD) goes something like this: 'So, my wife and i left the house the other day, and went and sat in the car, ready to go. Then i notice she's left the landing light on - 'what have ya done that for, love?', 'So burglars don't go in...' 'Oh, that's right. ther'e going to turn up at the house with a crowbar, see the light, and go 'oooh....no, they're all gathered on the landing'
Personally, i think he's excellent, and an act which cannot be translated by transcript. There's just something else to his act. It's drama, it's sarcasm, it's just the way he acts. He's like....there's very few words.
For those who've seen him before, you won't be disappointed, he's maybe recycled a few jokes, but he's still managed to fit enough new material in there to keep the laughs going. Also, there's a small musical section at the end. He's written two songs for the show. The first one is very good, but repetitive, a tale about a goldfish, decribing his 3 second memory, and the problems therein. The second is called 'The Land Of Our Forefathers' - far better, proving that Lee is an excellent musican, possibly best when sat in front of a piano.
The extras on the DVD are poor. There's little going on by way of documentaries, as would be expected.
Anyway, as badly written as this review is, there's very few words to describe this man. Just watch it, he's stunning.
