Nothing comes between love like a little competition.
Leatherheads is a 2008 movie staring George Clooney - enough said!!
Well, I should probably say a bit more about the film apart from George Clooney who as well as staring in the film directed it as well! The film is a romantic comedy set in the 1920's but I would say is not your typical Rom Com. George plays Dodge Connolly, an aging football player (American football) who signs up a new rising star to his team to try and revive the fortunes of the team. The new star is called Carter "The Bullet" Rutherford who is played by John Krasinski (he is in the American version of the office). The Bullet is a war hero but not all is as it seems apparently. Renee Zellweger plays Lexi Littleton a feisty journalist who has been tasked to write an article about the Bullet and dig up any dirt.
Then, something every girl dreams off, two men fighting over her occurs, namely, Dodge and Carter but in the end only one can win! Renee is one of my favourite actresses and she doesn't disappoint in this. She plays a really sassy, confident women who acts like she does not need a man but really enjoys the two fighting over her I think.
There are quite a lot of football scenes in this film and I would say if you're not much of a sports fan then I don't really think you would enjoy this film as a lot of the funny parts are due to the football too and are only funny if you like sports. The football results that the two men achieve I think also mirror the results they are achieving with Renee and it's great how the two stories go in parallel throughout the film.
Being set in the 1920's gave this film a great setting in my opinion. It is almost filmed like that too, quite fast paced and uses a lot of old time props such as steam trains and really adds a good element to the film. The costumes are great as well and it really makes you lust after the wardrobe of Renee Zellweger. George Clooney plays his part extremely well too and although he is looking a bit older he still pulls off the rugged, football player look. John Kraskinsi is not as an established actor as the other too but does not seem out of his depth at all and really holds his own against the other two stars.
There are not too many bonus features in this DVD, just some deleted scenes which are quite funny in places. The film lasts for approximately 1 hour and 49 minutes and it is a PG, containing mild language and comic violence.
I would not rush to see this film again but it is funny enough, different and worth seeing.
