Going to the cinema during your visit to Paris might not top of your list of things to do, but LeGrand Rex is certainly not your everyday cinema.
Histoire
LeGrand Rex was opened in 1932 and is the oldest cinema in Paris. It has a long and interesting history, from its opening night on the 8th of December 1932, attended by a ritzy, glitzy list of 3,300 VIPs, to its occupation by the German soliders, who used it as a place to watch propaganda films.
The building is decorated in a typical art deco style, whilst the inside, particularly the 'Grande Salle' - the biggest room, which also boasts the biggest screen in Europe - is a mixture of art deco and baroque style.
LeGrand Rex is also home to a night club - Rex Club - which is attached to the building and is right next door. However, in the many times I've visited, this has ...

Advantages: Unusual and brilliant spectacle Disadvantages: Its all in French!
We have travelled to the Vendee region of France several times and we had heard about The Grand Parc at Puy du Fou but it is billed as a Medieval Theme Park and it really didn't appeal to me! However having "done" many of the attractions in the area and faced with another day of dodgy weather (we were very unlucky in 2008) we decided to give it a go.
The tickets were about 25 euroes for adults and 15 for children. However when I enquired about directions at our campsite office they told me that we could buy tickets from them with a 5 euro discount each. This seems to be common practice in the area so either book online or through your accomodation if possible to bag a bargain! They also informed me that it was a simple journey and would be well signposted off the A87. They mentioned that the road to The Grand Parc gets busy ...
Advantages: Space, power, comfort, auto is standard Disadvantages: Width, servicing and parts costs, residual values
We have owned a GrandVoyager 3.3litre LE from new, two years and 30k miles ago. It's been a great vehicle to carry six people in individual comfort, but so could claim a number of other MPV's. The difference is that the long wheelbase gives an extra couple of feet boot space compared with others in this class. We have four children, ranging from 11 to 16 years, and on their return to school on a Sunday evening, the piles of bags and boxes and pets has to be seen to be believed. Previous cars included the Mercedes 230 TE estate, Volvo 850 estate and a Mitsubishi Spacewagon, and this Sunday trip was becoming impossible. Holidays en famille were no fun, even with a roof box. The Voyager has proved to be a great success, and it can swallow up all the luggage for seven, as we have done in the last year.
The downside is that it is not just ...
A French-Moroccan teenager has his world turned upside down when--just weeks away from his college exams--his father decides to take him to Mecca for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Uprooted from everything that's familiar, the father and son embark on a journey of discovery; discovery of the world outside of France, of their religious beliefs, and of their own strained relationship. LE GRAND VOYAGE infuses the tired road movie formula with a warmth and intimacy that proves quite intriguing.
