A small Synopsis of each movie and my humble opinions on each to follow:
The Live Ghost ************* A simple plot this short. The captain of a ship can't get any crew because of a rumour that his ship is haunted, something that really winds the captain up. He enlists Stan and Ollie to press gang some sailors onto his ship but warns them if they ever mention the word ghost he will twist their heads 180 degrees the wrong way. You can guess which two say the word.
Opinion ******* This short really is a laugh a second, all of their trade marks are here and when a drunken sailor falls into the white paint, the word ghost comes straight to their lips with dire consequences. Made in 1934. Run Time 21 Minutes. =================================================
Sailors, Beware! ****************** A weird plot to this short. A midget impersonating a baby and his wife, who is also pretending to be his mother, still with me? Are uncovered as thieves aboard a cruise ship by Stan and Ollie. The two thieves are not happy and set about causing mayhem and madness for our heros.
Opinion ******* A little know short this one but none the less very funny. Made in 1927 Run Time 20 Minutes. ===============================================
Two Tars *********** Stan and Ollie are two sailors on shore leave. They rent a car and go on a drive with their girlfriends, but soon get involved in a huge argument which builds and builds on the streets until the city is brought to a stand still. Things just keep getting more chaotic and funny with it.
Opinion ******* This is another simply brilliant short film with little speaking but plenty of comedic action. Made in 1928. Run Time 21 Minutes ==================================================
Why Girls Love Sailors ******************* A VERY earlier outing for the boys and it shows. Ollie is a tough first mate aboard a very rough and tough ship, who kidnap Stans girlfriend. He must use his intelligence! or trust to luck to rescue his girlfriend, with comedic results.
Opinion ******* Ollie is missing his trademark mustache looking very odd indeed. Both of the boys look very youthful. Made in 1927 Run Time 20 Minutes. ======================================================
Men O'War ********************** The boys are on leave and meet two girls but don't have much cash to impress them until Stan wins on a fruit machine. They hire a boat and you can guess cause chaos on the boating lake.
Opinion. ******* The plot is a typical Laurel and Hardy farce but not one of their best. Made in 1929 Run Time 19 Minutes. =================================================
Towed In A Hole *************** This is the one with Stan blowing that horn and trying to sell fish. They buy a boat and well you must have seen this one! Stan gets his head stuck behind the mast and ends up using a saw to cut his way free whilst Ollie is atop the mast painting, classic.
Opinion ******* One of their more memorable and hilarious short films. Made in 1932 Run Time 21 Minutes. =========================================
The colourised version are a real treat and superb to watch.
