Oliver Hardy (January 18 1892 – August 7 1957). Real name Norvell Hardy. Ollie was born in Harlem, Georgia and his mother was apparently responsible for him going into theatre. Right from early childhood Ollie had a beautiful singing voice. Soon the two would meet. They first appeared together in a silent movie called ‘Slipping Wives’ in 1927. The rest is history.
The Greatest comedy double acts EVER, FULL STOP.

Any Old Port. =========== The boys work on a whaling ship, not very PC. When they come home to port they meet a girl who is being bullied into marriage. They rescue the girl but lose all their cash and so Stan becomes a prize fighter to raise some funds. They end up in a hilarious boxing match with everything from peppered gloves to a boxing glove filled with nuts and bolts.
One of their funniest shorts ever. When Stan chases Mugsy around the ring with the ‘loaded’ glove it is memorably funny.
Made in1932 Runtime: 20 Minutes
The Battle of the Century. ====================== A silent movie this one and a very early Stan and Laurel, in fact it also stars a very youthful Lou Costello.
The film is based around prize fighting and Ollie taking out insurance that Stan doesn’t have an accident and then trying to make him have an accident.
It is typical of its era with lots of physical gags and a pie fight at the end that just has to be seen to be believed. A very, very funny short film that will not disappoint.
Runtime 20 Minutes Made in 1927
On The Wrong Trek. ================= The boys only have cameo roles in this movie, as hitchhikers, but they steal the show.
Starring charley Chase who goes on a driving holiday with his wife and mother in law! All sorts of mishaps occur and then the boys come in. They are trying to put in a false car accident claim to get some cash and guess whose car they decide to fall under?
The boys are only in it slightly but they steal the show. Oh Mr Chase gives us a song, Please spare us.
Made in 1936 Runtime: 18 Minutes.
Sound quality at times is a bit scratchy but to me that adds to the enjoyment. Picture quality is along the same lines, but none the less highly watchable. Extras, non to speak.
Language; English Classification: U Run Time: 50 minutes ASIN: B00004R779.
