When I was a kid I used to love sitting watching the cowboy & indian movies, and everything that made them magical to watch is right here in this movie. I am not sure why, but many people overlook this movie and they are missing out. This film stars Tom Berenger {Platoon, Sniper, Gettysburg} and Barbara Hershey. Tom Berenger as starred in an impressive list of movies and his acting in this film is a great performance.

The film is set in modern day, with Tom berenger is on the trail of some escaped convicts out in the wilderness of the Montana Oxbow. When he finds the convicts all dead, Berenger finds there deaths unusual in the ways that they were slain. For example one of the weapons used was a bow and arrow, the arrow being very natice American in style. He takes an arrow to be analysed by a Native American expert, to be told that it belongs to Cheyenne dog soldiers, an elite band of braves that are part of the Cheyenne tribes. Berenger decides to investigate further. He takes an horse, his dog and unwillingly the Native American expert, on an adventure to find out what is going on. Lost to the outside world for well over a century is an entire village of Cheyenne people, but the only problem is that Berenger's trail is picked up by some lawmen determined discover this secret also. The trouble is that when they do they want to destroy the Native people, and Berenger has to decide, who's side is he on.

This is a modern movie but plays so much quite similar to a western movie with Berengers attire much like a Old time cowboy, right down to his holster and six shooter. It is extremely well made and gives a fascinating insight to the lives and culture of the Cheyenne people. The film has a good plot, good script, action and adventure. This film pulls you in, and you find yourself willing on the safety of the tribe. Also the interaction between Berenger, his advisor and the Cheyenne who have not become modernised is very interesting to watch. In one scene it is kind of amusing to see their reaction when seeing an aeroplane fly overhead briefly. If you like good wholesome westerns with a modern touch, that are very well made then i assure you, this movie is for you.
