George A. Romero the man with such heavy weights under his belt as Dawn Of The Dead and Night Of The Dead how does his return to the genre stand against his classics?
Story The living dead have inhabited the world, and a group of surrivors hide out in a walled city, the wealthy hide in skyscrapers and the poor face chaos in the streets. Riley (Simon Baker) and Cholo (John Leguizamo) belong to a team that patrol outside of the city in a giant machine called dead reckoning, collecting supplies and goods than returning them to the people. When Cholo is betrayed by the big cheese Kaufman, he steals dead reckoning and holds the city hostage, its up to RIley to find dead reckoning and save the city. If that wasn't enough zombie's are rapidly approching the city, showing signs of basic intelegance, the barriers won't hold out forever and things are going to turn ugly. The story sounds good, and at parts its really enjoyable, I especially enjoyed the momments in the underground club, but some parts felt too long and when those final credits rolled I felt something missing, it just didnt compare to dawn of the dead or night of the dead 7/10
Charchters I enjoyed Charlie and Slack's charchters the most, the acting isn't groundbreaking but there's good performances from them and most of the cast through out 6/10
Blood, Gore And Sex Romero delivers some great gore as usual, but as I said before there just felt something miss 9/10
So is it a good movie? Yes and no, compare to Romero's early work and your dissapointed, compare it to the standard of recent zombie flicks and its good. There are momments that you will enjoy, but there are momments you want. I would recomend you check this one out just don't expect groundbreaking, or Romero at his best, just take it as a zombie film that has it momments and nothing more
6.5/10
