George A. Romero is definitely the best zombie-movie director of all time. His "night of the living dead" through to "day of the dead" are all now classics and now he's made a fourth, "land of the dead".
The film is set in a walled up city surrounded by water where the rich live in a skyscraper and live as though nothing has changed and the poor live out on the streets with basic supplies thrown down to them my the big guy who runs it all. The borders beyond the water are guarded by armed men and electric fences. This outline is what you would expect in the fourth instalment, humans have adapted to live in a world of zombies and some rich guy has gained all the power.
The trouble is, this isn't the main feature, the storyline follows a zombie uprising where they learn how to use tools and even guns and head towards the walled up city to… well I don't know, one zombie seems to get upset by seeing other zombies being killed so he leads them in to battle, practically and that's what spoils the film.
The setting carries on from the first three films but the storyline doesn't and to be honest it seems as though Romero just wanted to finish the saga but couldn't think of a decent, different storyline.
From the start the film is too predictable, although there is a limit to what can happen in these types of films there arent any interesting catches to this one.
The last scene shows the main characters heading north which could leave an opening for another film, I hope there isnt now. Diary of the dead is on its way but from what I hear it doesnt carry on from any of Georges films.
It's worth watching if you like zombie films but for Romero it's a disappointment.
The cast include; Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, Asia Argento and Robert Joy.

I don't appreciate the spoiler either but it's a mistake a lot of film and book reviewers seem to be making lately. Overall this isn't a terrible review and is quite helpful in places. But I'd have been interested in seeing this film had you reviewed it properly and not ruined the ending for me. Elle x.
