When this film was first advertised I really looked foward to it as M Night Shylaman has had some really good movies Signs being one of my favorites and this looked to be going back on track after the disappointment with The Village.
The film centres around the caretaker Cleveland Heep played by Paul Giamatti of an ordinary apartment block who just goes about his daily business until one day he finds a girl called Story in the water played by Bryce Dallas Howard. Story is here to save the world but has to return to her world once her mission is accomplished and this is being hampered by otherwordly wolves that have been sent to destroy her.
A group of the residents, rallied together by Cleveland, then have to work out how to get Story back to her own world and in the process they realise that they aren't all just living in the same apartment block by chance but have special quailites that were meant for just this time.
Although the film starts out really well setting the scene and the mysterious atmosphere I found that it then began to sag about midway through the film and the story began to drag a little bit.
However the ending is quite good once you get through the slower middle part of the film.
I wouldn't say this film was a total wash out but it definatley is not up to Shylaman's earlier standards and I did find it a bit disappointing. However I hope he doesn't give up as he is definately one of the better talents out there.
