As most people who read my reviews will have gathered by now, I love my Disney films! Another one that is a classic one that I first watched when I was younger is this one 'Lady and the Tramp'. This was the 15th animated Disney film and was released in 1955.
The plot: The story follows two very different dogs - one is a well looked after, well behaved spaniel who lives in the posh neighbourhood and who is well mannered named Lady. She has a couple of friends who also live in the neighbourhood in the form of Scottish terrier Jock and Trusty, a Bloodhound. The other is Tramp, a mongrel who is so called Tramp because he lives day to day on the streets and making friends as he goes along - especially with the local Italian restaurant manager who gives him the scraps at the end of the day!
One day the paths of Lady and Tramp cross and they end up falling in love. But it is not ideal and with no owner to claim him the dog pound is trying to get hold of Tramp - it doesn't help that Lady's owners are away and Aunt Sarah who is looking after Lady and the owner's baby doesn't take too kindly to Lady at all. Will Lady and Tramp be able to escape being put in the pound?
Cast: As always actors are brought in to do the voices for the Disney film and the below are the main characters and who supplied the voice for them. You'll notice there were quite a few people who did the voices for more than one character.
Lady - Barbara Luddy Tramp - Larry Roberts Jock, Bulldog in pound and policeman in Zoo - Bill Thompson Trusty - Bill Baucom Darling and Peg - Peggy Lee Jim Dear - Lee Millar Aunt Sarah - Verna Felton
For those eagled eyed or ultimate Disney fans of you out there you'll notice that Barbara Luddy who does the voice of Lady has also done quite a few other Disney character voices including Kanga from 'Winnie the Pooh' and the fairy Merryweather in 'Sleeping Beauty'. Also Verna Felton who does the voice for Aunt Sarah also did the voice of a fairy, Flora, in Sleeping Beauty.
Overall opinion: This is really another great classic Disney film. I don't think there would be many who didn't see this growing up or would have bought it at some point for their own children. It is such a nice storyline and the fact that it is all mainly animal based makes it ideal for children to watch. The characters are well developed and I especially love the character of Jock with his thick Scottish accent which is obviously done to tie in with the fact that he is Scottish terrier!
The film includes some music along the way to as do most of the Disney productions and most noticeable songs we hear in this film are 'He's a Tramp!' and 'We are Siamese' This really is an ideal Disney film that everyone can enjoy so I highly recommend it for the families DVD collection!
The film has a U rating so is suitable for everyone and a copy of the DVD will set you back around the £12 mark new from various online stores. My copy has no extras but you can pick up special editions with extras on.
