Advantages: Beautiful Cinematography Disadvantages: Near on Everything Else
...Ladder 49 initially looks like a good movie, the opening is subtly haunting and the special effects look amazing but soon all this gives way to tired clichés and a contrived plot which fails to spark the audiences' attention. In putting the main group of characters into designated stereotypes the screenplay fails to inject any humanity into them which means that any of the frequent twists lose all their impact as you really couldn't care less what ... ...bit of shouting. Ladder 49 does however contain some of the most beautiful cinematography that I have seen in a long while, the whole production is expertly lit which really does help the action sequences and adds an atmosphere that the badly structured screenplay wouldn't usually allow. Also the use of colour filters is handled well which helps the film have a highly glossy look that is at times simply stunning, the separation of light and dark ...

My thoughts
=
This is a film about the lives of firemen and is meant to be a tribute to them. Apparently, ... ...the question, "Why do some men run into burning buildings when everyone else is running out?" I think that the film did a very good job of this. By showing the development of both Jack's personal and professional life, the audience gets to know him as a person. We see his ordinary life as a husband and father and we see him go from fighting his first fire to performing many daring rescues. Although I could understand his wife who was afraid he might ...

Advantages: Good actors. great movie Disadvantages: no
This is my first review here just so you know.
This film is about firefighters, after september 11, this was done for the firefighters who get killed when World Trade Center kollapsed.
This movie has good actors, the best is John Travlota, he is now a boss on a firestation. But the movie take focus to Jack Morisson, he has become a firefighter and start working at Kennedys ( john travlotas ) firestation.
He meet a nice girl and they will marry ... ...i have seen it 4-5 times and i still like i very much. I have not seen so many firefighters movies before, so this is the best I have seen.
I can warmyl recommend you to see this movie if you like action/adventure movies. It is definitely worth the money. ...

DVD Description
Joaquin Phoenix is great in this saga of Baltimore firefighter Jack Morrison, whose life starts flashing before his eyes when he becomes trapped in a blazing high rise. Flashbacks chronicle his memories of being a rookie at his Baltimore fire company. He remembers fighting his first fire, bonding with fellow firefighters, falling in love with a beautiful local girl (Jacinda Barrett), getting married, and having children. He also looks back on forming a close relationship with the fire chief (John Travolta) and learning to face the danger and heroics of life on the job. This film manages to wring plenty of well-earned tears from its subject matter--as well as spine-tingling thrills--which are the result of solid performances, characterisation, and good naturalistic dialogue from screenwriter Lewis Colick. Barrett is great as Jack's worried wife; she and Phoenix exhibit strong, earthy chemistry in their scenes together. Travolta makes a fine fire captain who is graceful, sure of himself, and always ready to give up the spotlight to the younger actors. Other firemen include Morris Chestnut, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Patrick. The addition of a soundtrack of contemporary Irish and Irish-American folk and rock keeps the melancholia just a whisper away. The heroics of 9/11 are subtly honoured here, but never directly mentioned, which is to the film's credit.
