...The story in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! (and you leave the exclamation mark out at your peril) is Camille, the Dumas story that forms the basis of La Traviata and has been reworked numerous times. Luhrmann and co-writer Craig Pearce's take on the story is as distinctive as their 1996 Romeo and Juliet which starred Leonardo di Caprio. Having just seen the film I'm brimming with things to say and to stop it sprawling too much I'll address each aspect in turn.
Story
An aspiring English poet, Christian (Ewan McGregor) sets up shop in fin de siecle Paris where he comes under the spell of the Moulin Rouge's star performer and courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman). Advantages: the unique and bizarre style Disadvantages: seems to be the only film out of the series.
...are brilliant. after watching the dvd making of you find out that many scenes were in fact clever optical illusions. however, the incrediby deadly viper could have been done better, but other than that...the effects are woefully wonderful!

there are lots of interesting extras with this two disc specialedition, but i was still left wanting more....

J’ai beaucoup aimé encore la notion de sentiment dans ce film musical, en partant de la femme frivole, légère, en passant par la femme dans le doute et le tourment, avant d’arriver à la femme conquise, éprise, amoureuse…
Cette réflexion sur les sentiments qui reprend de très près le remake de Roméo et Juliette et de la Dame aux Camélias montre le sentiment comme illusion, un sujet pris avec méfiance, mépris et dédain selon les valeurs sociales. On à l’impression que Satine est prêt à bailler sa vie, à la brûler dans l’univers de la débauche et du pouvoir, mais LE sentiment l’amène à le vivre pleinement.
